Samsung reads backups not originals

Post by jcue »

I ran into an odd situation today. I bought an xbox 360 today and after flashing I noted that it will only read backup games and not originals. I'm not sure what I have done wrong.

It's a samsung MS25 flashed w/ 1.61

I'm trying to flash it back to stock but I can't get it into vendor mode. I've tried the activate.iso, power-cycle (CK3) but w/ no success.

The drive is crappy anyways...it sometime doesn't open, and it opens by itself aswell (go figure)

Since the xbox can read back-up games does this mean I can buy another drive and spoof it?

you dont need to spoof any drive right now

if the drive reads backup then there is no reason it will not read orig games
try a different game
there is something odd going on
the key has to be right or it would not play any game

The other issue is that the drive does not want to open. Then I have to open the 360 up and manually open it. The only way it does not get stuck is if there is a game in it at all time.

To fix the drive stuck issue, you can replace the rubber belt at the front of the drive (you can see it when the tray is ejected). I use rubber bands. You can get a pack of the ones that girls use for their braids, they work excellent. The rubber bands look smaller than the belt you are replacing, but stretch to fit.

To fix the drive read error, you can try adjusting the laser strength. There are two small adjustment screws on the side of the laser, find a tutorial that shows you how to measure and make adjustment. I just fixed a benq laser like that last week. The other option is to replace the laser, you can find them for about $5.00. The reason the drive sounds so loud is that it is spinning up trying to get a good read of the data on the disc.
