Help swaping Benq OFW (no jungleflasher?)

Post by adrianm26 »

A little long winded but I'll give it a go:

What I want to accomplish is swap a old loud shitty benq drive with a new one. I don't want to swap the boards because i would like to have 2 working drives for the xbox so i can use the old one as sort of a "Lab Rat" for future endeavors. I have the OFW dumped and ready to go, but here are my problems:

(This is more of a computer issue) At the current moment junglflasher does not seem to be an option, if my 360 drive is powered on the computer will not boot, and if i power it on while in windows my computer freezes. I've tried tinkering with the BIOS and checking the drivers, etc. There may be something I missed, any advice here would be greatly appreciated. I have the compatable sata card ( I have flashed a benq drive previously with iextreme1.6 using iprep, which is also what i used to dump the OFW)on an old build running dual boot XP/server2003.

I've tried replacing the CFW on the iprep USB stick with the OFW but am getting an error of "Cannot read binary file". If someone can point me in the right direction with some other DOS based flashing utility (MTKflash or DOSflash maybe?)that would be great ( I've been doing a lot of googling but feel like im running in circles here).

I'm really just looking for some helpfull advice to point me in the right direction, feeling a little overwelmed with google ( a lot of not applicable findings). Thanks for any replies!

with jungle
i would think your are using the normal sata drivers
and that will mess jungle up
you would have to install the drivers for your sata that jungle will work with
you can read over that here Have A Read

if you want to use iprep
the i would step back and use a older iprep
and flash it like a restore but rename what ever firmware you want to flash in
you can read over that here Click Me :D

man dont get in a hurry
Just take your time and do the reading
if you are not 100%
then just ask a question
we will do our best to help

It's not so much a problem with jungleflasher, its either a problem with my computer Mobo or a windows driver issue. As soon as i switch on my 360 drive in windows (regardless if JF is open or not) the OS (XP pro) freezes. I'll try changing the drivers. I read elsewhere that IDE drives and sata don't exactly mix well, and my HDD is IDE, so that might be the issue.

This is huge, thank you! I'll be jumping on this soon!
I'll be back to update my progress in the next few days, thanks again for the help.

You shouold swap the board for the stock drive. Meaning, the drive that's loud, take its PCB and put it in the quiet one, then slap that into your console, and your done.

Then play with flashing on the loud drive. That way if anything does go wrong your drive in your console is still working 100%.

Always better to have some experience, and to know that your setup works before playing with the key and firmware on a drive in your console. ;)

Iprep 006 on the Benq worked like a charm! Thank you much!

I'm now trying to do the same thing with a Sam ms-25, but am running into a "no drive detected" error before dumping (replacing the board is not an option as i extracted the key but bricked the drive awile back). Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Well if you bricked the drive, you likely cannot recover it.

I had a samsung I bricked on my first ever flash, and have never been able to recover it, I've also had a bricked ms 28 come in and was unable to recover it.

I have another samsung (not the bricked) and had success with iprep 8.

Thank you guys for your help!
I have a bunch of RROD consoles i've been grabbing up from friends, fixing them up with the heatgun/xclamp repair. I think I'll be frequenting this site more often, beautifull site you guys have here!

Well, dont dump the bricked drive, just use the extracted key, use jungle flasher, create an OFW/CFW and then flash it using iprep.
