A question about flashing a Benq drive

Hi,
My 360 has a Benq Drive and some one flashed it before. Now I'm trying to flash it myself. Do I need to restore the drive before I flash it again?

nope

the benq and sam drive you can flash right over the old flash.
do it the same way as if it was a first time flash dump,make sure the key is goos and flash.

CoFree is 100% right on the money. Samsungs and Benq's do not need to be restored to flash them again. Benq's go through an erase process so it doesn't matter much for them anyway.

Which is why you really need to make sure you backup the fw and check it for a good key before you flash it!!!

there's a problem. I just found out my bios doesn't allow me to boot with a usb drvie. Can I use the floppy drvie to boot up?

yes you can prepare destination as a floppy - it just takes longer.

Just dump the current flash - it will contain the key... but make sure you check the key in firmware toolbox 1st to ensure it was a successful dump. You are looking for a random string of numbers / not 00000's or FFFFFF's or anything along those lines... & back it up somewhere else off the floppy (email it to yourself or something)

Yes, you can use a floppy to do this with. On the backup of your firmware, when you run the dben command it will dump what it thinks is your original firmware. Even though it's actually the hacked firmware, that part isn't all that important really. What is important is that what it dumps has the correct drive key. Once it dumps, you can reboot into windows and use firmware toolbox to check the key and see if it's valid or not. If it is, then you can proceed to flash it with the updated hacked firmware. If you should ever want to return to stock firmware, then you would have to download that somewhere, but it's not hard to find, then use firmware toolbox to inject your key and flash it.
