Ok I have successfully created a backup of one of my games. I have made 100% sure that the game was backed up correctly so I no there was no problem with the backup. I burned it using ImgBurn and selected the layer break to 1913760. I also changed the boot type to DVD-ROM and burned at 2.4x. Im using a Datawrite disk but every time I try to play the game it says the disk needs to be cleaned aka unreadable disk. Also sometimes the game loads for the first 20 seconds and I can see the game logo or the company it was made by but then I get the unreadable disc error or the game just freezes.
there's a couple of candidates for this... it's a process of elimination really
can you tell me:
what dvd burner you are using?
what drive is in your xbox?
what firmware is it flashed with?
& what speed it is flashed too?
..also - how old is your xbox?

after this I can give you a shortlist of options
I have the following Burner
TssTcorp TS-H653L (Samsung)
The Drive in my Xbox is
Samsung MS28
I flashed it with Xtreme52 and speed I flashed it with was 12x or 20x I cant remember lol but I no flashed i it with the fastest speed available at the time
Im not sure how old it is because I actually got it from a friend who didnt really need it anymore
First thing I would try is getting some good Singapore Verbatim dl disks and rule out a media problem. Chances are on an older used box the laser will be a bit weak, and the better media will help with this. If it's trying to read sometimes then you probably did your burn correctly, and it just having a bit of trouble reading it.
Also make sure you are burning and dumping at a slow speed. I usually don't go over 2.4 although some people don't have problems at a little faster speed.
yep jman is right get a good media disk verbatim is the best, have you tried using original on it, does it work fine if so then yep bad media, the way you burned is right just need a good media disk.
flashed 16 benQ, 8 Sams25, 3 sam28, 2 hit 0059dj, 2 0047dh 3 0047dj, still stuck on 0078fk, failed 0047dj hardware
See the thing is I have burned games on Memorex and Aone media and they seem to play just fine. And you all no Aone & Memorex is like the worst media you can get. Its really weird how Aone media works but Datawrite doesnt.
Any ideas what else could be the problem other then using quality media.
Before I tried anything else, I would try different media. You kind of have to understand how optical drives work to know why a certain brand of media will or won't work with a drive. In a standard drive, support for all different brands of media is added into the firmware. By that, I mean read strategies, and in the case of a burner, write strategies. I've seen some with as much as a full page of supported media. Some of the cheaper ones, not so many. In the case of a game console, they generally only add support for one type of media and thats pressed disks. In the case of the 360, they had to add a select few more, but not all brands. This is why you can get one brand to work, and another not to work. The idea is to use a media that will allow you to make it look as much like a pressed disk as possible.
Other things that can cause this is a weak laser like CoFree said. You might tweak the laser a little, but if you decide to do this, do your research before hand or you'll end up having to replace the laser or possibly the drive. It could be that the laser is on its way out too. Pressed games will read when nothing else will so that might be a possibility. The laser could just be dirty too, so you might try cleaning it.
Thats about it for what can cause this issue really. Media, dirty laser, and a weak laser. I would also consider trying the backup that you are having trouble with in another console to see if it reads properly, if you can. If it does read properly, then you can take bad media off the list, but keep in mind that it could still be bad media to your particular drive and not someone else's.
yes take advice from cofree and sadalius they are right, but its best to use good media as they said your laser might be weak and if you continue to try using cheap media you might end up shortening the life of the laser so it is good to get something like verbatim. but if you still want to use datawrite then just replace the laser on the drive if you can do that, do read up a lot.
