Army of Two Backup problem (crc data error)

Post by BigPapa07 »

Hey guys, haven't had problems in a while, but now I'm back. I haven't seen this problem anywhere else on the internet, but I just got in from work, am tired, and angry to recieve this error again and again, so I might have overlooked it. So, I've backed up all of my games at this point, I use wxripper and just Dummy the third line so it looks like CDD. This has always worked in the past, but now with Army of Two, I get the Cyclic redundancy check data error on the 6th line (which is a copy). What could be the problem? Is the DVD I'm using too small? It is the same one I've always used (The Godfather). Any ideas or solutions? Thanks.

Ok, I'll check it out later on, I'm in the middle of moving, so I'm hoping not to be offline for too long. Thanks though man!

So far no good. I understand that you don't use this method much, because you have a much better way of doing, so thats alright, I'm keeping my fingers crossed someone has an answer.

I tried to Dummy the first 3 lines as opposed to just the 3rd and see if it helped, it didn't. So I took the CRC error from that try and found the number where the error occured, then split it into 2 parts, the first Copy all the way up to 1 before the error, and the rest was a Dummy right afterwards for the rest of it. This only gave me a pop-up error and asked me if I wanted to continue. Basically a bust. I am not seeing if the error occurs at the same spot when the 3rd line is Dummy as opposed to the first 3 lines being Dummy.

If anyone has any other suggestion, throw them at me, I'm catching all kinds of things right now.

EDIT: (No luck with anything I've tried so far)

Not sure which firmware you are running on 360, but if it's Xtreme 3 or later, you might save some aggravation by ordering a drive capable of ripping original 360 games like the Samsung SH-D162C/SH-D163B. Then you could create a straight backup of your original games with Xbox Backup Creator or Schtrom's Xtract 360 that is fully Xtreme/iXtreme compatible. That would alleviate the need to switch discs with a Dual Layer over 8GB's and dissemble a DVD drive with the wxripper method.

The drives I mentioned are no longer manufactured, the best place to find them is on eBay. They run about $60. The SH-D162C is an IDE drive, the SH-D163B is a SATA drive. That solution costs a bit of money, but it will definitely save you some time and aggravation.

Ok, first off, its a Hitachi :(

And secondly, now that I'm actually having some source of income, buying a new drive seems like a good road to go down.

It would be easiest for me to back the game up like I have been trying to do, so any information on this matter first would be awesome... but, if I was going to buy a drive, out of all the ones I've read about or you've mentioned, which would you recommend?

Well if you are looking for the easiest way to backup 360 games, then a SH-D162C or SH-D163B is the way to go. Simply install it in your PC, flash it with Kreon's firmware, and then use Xbox Backup Creator or Schtrom's Xtract 360 to create a Xtreme or iXtreme iso, depending on which firmware you have. To create a iXtreme style iso, then leave the "create splitvid iso" option enabled. You will still need a Dual Layer burner to burn games, the SH-D162C and SH-D163B are DVD-ROM drives, not burners. Backups created from original games using modern versions of Xbox Backup Creator or Schtrom's are completely iXtreme compatible and Live-proof.

Which drive to get depends on what kind of connections you have available in your PC. The SH-D162C is a IDE drive. The SH-163B is a SATA drive.

CoFree's suggestion about picking up a spare 360 DVD-ROM and flashing it with the 0800 firmware is another possibility, though I believe replacement 360 drives are more expensive than either the SH-D162C or SH-D163B. I am under the impression that you are looking for a DVD-ROM capable of backing up original Xbox 360 games. In that case the drives I mentioned are the way to go. If you need a spare 360-DVD ROM drive, then his idea has merit.

Here is a guide for backing up 360 games with Xbox Backup Creator and ImgBurn.

http://www.xtreme-source.com/tutorials- ... games.html

Quick Guide to Flash Samsung SH-D162C or SH-D163B (thanks to timmeah2001 at xbox-scene):

1. Hook up Samsung SH-D162C to your PC.
2. Make sure there is no CD/DVD inside of the drive!!!
3. Start (doubleclick) sfdnwin.exe
4. Select drive from pulldownmenu: TSSTcorpDVD-ROM SH-D162CTS04
5. At the top left click "DOWNLOAD FILE OPEN"
6. Select file: SH-D162C_TS04_XB360_KREON_V081.bin
7. At the top left click "START DOWNLOAD" (button in the middle)

Wow man, thats a lot to process when I'm coming to terms with not being able to backup Army of Two for the time being ;)

Thanks though. Thats a lot of insight into the solution I guess I'm going to go with. I thought about getting a spare 360 drive before, (I've had mine since the beginning and have only had a slight problem with the lense which I was luckily able to fix myself), but decided that I didn't have the money to spend on it.

I think I'm going with the IDE drive. Thanks for lending me your expertise on the subject man, its really been a help.
