I agree with CoFree, the wxripper method is too much work. However if you have a DVD writer you don't mind taking apart and a data or original DVD over 8GB's , it should work without buying anything extra.

If you are willing to spend $60 or so you can purchase a Samsung SH-D162C or SH-D163B off eBay. You install these drives in your PC like any other optical drive. Once these drives are flashed with Kreon's firmware they are capable of ripping (creating iso images) of original Xbox 360 games with Xbox Backup Creator or Schtrom's Xtract 360. With this method you can have a drive in your PC dedicated to creating backups for your original 360 games. If you use the wxripper, then you will have to have a data or original DVD over 8 GB's and have to dissemble a DVD-writer to get it to work. The SH-D162C is a IDE drive. The SH-D163B is a SATA drive.

The drives are rare and no longer manufactured in the U.S., so eBay is the best place to find them. They are easier to find in the UK and overseas. Here is a guide showing how to backup original Xbox 360 games with the SH-D162A and SH-D163B.

http://www.xtreme-source.com/tutorials- ... games.html

These drives are for ripping (reading) Xbox 360 games only, you will still need a Dual Layer Burner to burn 360 games.

Only certain drives are capable of ripping 360 games. The hardware in the Samsung SH-D162C and SH-D163B is similar enough to the 360 DVD-ROM that they are capable of ripping original 360 games when flashed with Kreon's firmware. An ordinary Dual Layer drive will not be able to rip 360 games. Put an original Xbox 360 game in one of your Dual Layer drives and see what happens. Windows will see it as a Video DVD. The SH-D162C and SH-D163B support Dual Layer discs, all Xbox 360 games are Dual Layer. So if you want to rip original games without using the wxripper method, you either have to purchase one of these drives or use a 360 DVD-ROM drive and get it in 0800 mode. That is more work, and not really practical in my view.

So what I'm saying is if you want to backup original 360 games, you need to purchase one of the drives I mentioned or a pickup a spare 360 DVD-ROM. The drives I mentioned are not a necessity for backing up 360 games, but they do make it a hell of a lot easier. The other option involves dissembling your Xbox 360, connecting the DVD-ROM drive to your PC, getting it in the correct read mode, and then using Xbox Backup Creator or Schtrom's Xtract 360 to rip the game. To do that, you will need to dissemble your DVD-ROM drive and hook it up to your PC through a SATA connection every time you wish to backup a game. That is not very practical in my view.

pretty much any dvd rom drive that will read a DL disc should be able to dump the 360 game.

Just to clarify CoFree is referring to the wxripper method, I am referring to using Xbox Backup Creator with certain model Samsung drives.

any dvd rom will dump the game as long as it supports reading dl disks. i tried this old dvd rom which was made in 2000 still worked and i managed to dump the game. i did find a bug or i dont know what to call in cofree's tutorial, if you see when you do in the drop down pick amovie and you choose it, he finds the magic number of that dvd, but textbooks tutorial is a bit different, instead of finding magic number and saying layout file then, just stop the dvd before and swap it with a game and then find the magic number and save the layout and change it the way cofree says. i get errors dumping if i follow the tutorial and find magic number before swapping., see if that is happening to you,
flashed 16 benQ, 8 Sams25, 3 sam28, 2 hit 0059dj, 2 0047dh 3 0047dj, still stuck on 0078fk, failed 0047dj hardware

The size of your movie dvd just has to be larger than the game that your trying to rip. The larger the movie, the better though because if you can find one large enough, then you can rip about any game out there. The question would be if you can patch them with xdvdmulleter or not.
