Im gonna go with it being a combination of the media, burn speed and the game itself. I tried DMC 4 a lil while ago, also burned on Memorex @ 2.4x and not 1 peep from the drive @ all. This is what makes me believe it's the speed & game itself. Same with retail games, it's hit/miss depending on the game. I guess im just gonna go back to strictly Verbs & burn @ 2.4x and then i'll know indefinately whether it's internal or not.

@ parminder, i wouldn't know what it sounded like before i flashed, since i flashed right out the box :geek: lol

*EDIT* Has anyone tried Ritek/RiData DL? I know they were very reliable when it came to DVDR...Have they gone downhill? As far as Verbs go...Im looking for sales right now and i noticed some of the tech specs on some sites that have the "new" purple packaged Verbs made in Singapore. Im iffy on whether to trust it or not since everyone says they're orange. :|

Damn, there goes them 8x Memorex's again....Amazon has them, 50pk for $42 free shipping. It's so tempting!

Ok well i got a 96.60 on quality on the MLB disc with both NeroDriveSpeed and DVDinfopro. *shrug*

I also found the orange 8x Verbatims for $33.99+ free shipping here http://www.meritline.com/verbatim-8x-dl ... indle.html
I guess we'll see the difference when they're delivered. Thanks again for everyone's responses :)

*EDIT* Hmmm it seems that a patch was released for MLB2K8 to get rid of the framerate problems and now my drive is silent playing that game.

Just a lil update. I played a few more games on these 8x Memorex, 2.4x Memorex, 2.4x TDK & 2.4x-6x Verbatims...As well as a couple of retails. Here's what i got.......

Bioshock Verbatim - Silent @ all times
NFS Pro Street 8x Memorex @ 2.4x - Lil rattles from the drive while loading @ full speed
DOA4 Retail - Silent @ all times
PGR3 Retail - Lil rattles from the drive while loading @ full speed
PGR4 Verbatim - Lil rattles from the drive while loading @ full speed but not as bad as PGR3

I was about to open the drive to check the magnet, but the more & more i try different games, the more i notice it's definately dependant on how much the particular game streams and as always...Stick with quality meadia ;)

Just tried. Burned @ 2.4x on a 8x Memorex...I've got to say, it sounds almost the same as BioShock on the Verb. There was a very subtle "rattle" a couple of times, but nothing like when i played those other games. So i guess it is mostly game-dependant :?: Could be that the data in certain games is scattered and the laser speeds up to 12x and searches for that data and that's when i hear these lil noises. I should be getting 40pk of Sing. Verbs this week, so i'll test some things on those and if i have spare time this weekend, i'll take the drive apart just to double check the magnet. Don't really know what else to do? It's not scratching my games, im not getting disc errors and these noises are seldomly heard. :|

i got a benq...an i def notice the drive/laser/reading whatever...is louder than reading/playing normal games

i guess some games dont load/read as much as or as loud as others..but yeah i really don't think theres much to be done

i was playin cod4 an it almost got annoying how much it was reading....anyone else with a benq know what i mean ?

i just think it's the way the laser reads burned games....cuz they play just fine.

oh well i guess maybe you guys can figure something out.

to be honest it doesnt really matter, what matters is the noise, if you playing at night when you parents r sleeping we tend to put the volume down, when i do that i hear my xbox roar like a accelerating bus so i just switch to my sweet ps3 and online play, that is my only worry
flashed 16 benQ, 8 Sams25, 3 sam28, 2 hit 0059dj, 2 0047dh 3 0047dj, still stuck on 0078fk, failed 0047dj hardware

thanks man.
i think that the game is a lot of it.The disc is some also.
i would not take the drive apart just to have a look.
why take a chance of something getting messed up.

Yep nothing much to do, I think you are probably just being oversensitive tbh. Unless you start getting coasters and disc read errors, not too much to worry about imo.

Just got my singapore Verbs ID MKM 003. Burned MLB 2K8 @ 2.4x and guess what? Still the same noises, although a lil more subtle. My final conclusion is that it's the games & where particular data is stored on the disc & how fast the laser has to fetch it. Im going to take your advice cofree & leave well enough alone. ;)

Does anyone play MLB 2K8 on a Benq drive & can check to see what im talking about though? I've seen people talk about this same noise with COD4 as well...mostly during mp.

Ok guys, i haven't touched a thing...Just figured i'd share a recent finding. Was playing a NBA Ballers Chosen One on my premium and the Hitachi is making that same sound during the loading screens. Burned on a Verb @ 2.4x...So i guess this noise is 'normal' afterall.

I have flashed many a Benq all at 12x - & for backup verbs or phillips @ 2.4 max (i can wait a little longer), all with no probs not even a coaster.......

My drive very near silent at all times as are the other Benq's all using media burned the sam way only really loud machines have been Sammy's MS28's they judder like hell on cut scenes (compared to Benq anyway)....thats my experience anyway.
