Mode B always seems to be giving trouble

Post by Ricochet69 »

Hi I have a hitachi 78 and i was going to mod it.

Now I have modded several consoles before and have a fair idea of what im doing. But I have been having trouble trying to get the hitachi's into mode b nearly every time using the slax meathod, and as you know it is required for this.

Basicly i keep getting an error saying usbs not found. Now i have tried reburning the cd,and different cd media, but with no luck.

I have read that others have been having similar problems too. im using slax alpha 1. oh ya could i use the blaster/connectivity kit to get it into mode b?

Thanks for any help :D

no
on the v78 you have to use slax for modeB

there are 2 different slax.Make sure to try them both.v2.0 and v2.1

here is a guide i put up.
i have not put the pictures in yet.Have a look it my help.

you can not flash a v78 with a x360usb to sata.
http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/dd-360-xusb" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

one more thing i was having a hard time getting my via chipset sata card to see the v78 drive so i went to the onboard sata port and it works fine.
The v78 dvd drive will work with a lot of different sata ports.

I'm not sure whats with that error message. When do you get the message and what is happening when it comes up?? It might be the usb stick that your using to boot from?

I have had this problem once before and the only i could get it onto mode b by using the 2 wire trick. Maybe it is the chipset on my mb,ill try another one. I dont have anything plugged in when i start up the slax cd and it says something about not detecting usb, i have deffo seen this error posted on other sites before.

thanks for yere help

ok i have ran both slax versions on a dell pc which i have modded several 360 before. When i run the slax cd i get this message:
Ata1:Port is slow to respond, please be patient
Ata1:Port failed to respond (30 Sec)
Ata1:SRT failed (Status 0xff)
Ata1: SRT failed (Err_mask 0x100)
Ata1:soft reset failed retry
Ata1:soft reset failed giving up
Ata1:failed op code was: unknown

I get this several times and for ata1 and ata2, so I tried plugging every ata out (cept the cd drive) and still get this error. I do have everything else plugged out that isn't necessary. I also discovered the "usb" problem seemed to be a problem with jst my pc thats why i tried on the dell. The cd drive is picked up sometimes when I go into setup in the bios but it doesn't have any symptoms of mode b and isnt detected in windows :-(

Thanks for any help at all I wouldn't post if I hadn't tried everything I could think of.

post away man its not a problem. ;)

anyway
the slax is not seeing the 360 dvd drive.All i can think of is try a different sata port.
The hit dvd drive are not as picky as the benq and samsung.

I dont know how many hit you do,But the modeB crap like this is why i got this.It works with all the hit drives, but the v78 and v79.It wont get them in modeB you have to us slax for them
http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/dd-360-xusb" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
with the push of a button you get the drive in modeB.Then with the 360usb to sata that cant be better.
plug it in and it mounts in windows.
have a look here you will see me using it.

Other than trying on a different computer, the only other thing I can think of would be to try a different version of slax. There are 2 or three different versions out there so maybe one of them would work better than the other in your particular case?
