Need some help for flashing

Hello all

I'm planning to buy a 360 in a week or so, I'd like to ask some questions so I know what to do when I get it.

1) are there any problems if I did the flashing on windows vista?
2) I have a Gigabyte M61P-S3 mobo, will its SATA do the trick?
3) If something goes wrong, what's the worst that could happen?
4) I have a SONY DRU-820A (I heard it supports the recommended booktype) is this true?
5) Should I follow the "textbook 2008 for noobs" which is posted here?


Sorry for all these questions, but I'm really worried and hesitated

its always better to ask question before you just dive right in.

1) are there any problems if I did the flashing on windows vista?

vista could give you a hard time,but you can flash a dvd drive with vista.the most command thing you would have to do is right click the program you want to run ,and run as admin.

I dont think any one here will go that far out on a limb to say that onbo sata will work.
I would say get this card and install it.That chipset via6421a or L is known to work,here is a link to the card.

well i guess the worst that could happen is in the flashing it could catch on fire and burn your house down.
sorry about that.Yes there are a lot of thing that could happen.The thing that happens some is a person will not make a backup of the "OFW" and check it with firmware toolbow v4.6 to make sure they have a good key in there firmware before they go to the flashing stage and brick there drive.then it is just a dvd player and will no longer play games of any kind.

4) I have a SONY DRU-820A (I heard it supports the recommended booktype) is this true?

booktype is not needed any more with the new firmware.I have never even messed with it.
Most of your DL dvd burner will work just fine for making backup games.

5) Should I follow the "textbook 2008 for noobs" which is posted here?

Yes
textbook guide is a very good guide.It goes into great detail on most everything.
there are some videos here in the tutorial thread that should help also.
after you get your 360(pray its not a hit v79.The v79 hit dvd drive has to have a passkey soldered in ,and there is not a lot of help we can give on that drive.That is untill you get the mod chip installed,that no one will do for you. )

If I am careful and follow step by step, my xbox wouldnt turn to a brick?

are onboard sata likely to work? cause I live in egypt, so I doubt I will find that card in shopping malls and I cant order online cause they wont ship here : (

If i didnt find that specific model of the card, will any sata pci card work? or do I need a specific feature or brand?

oh yeah another one:

If for example i got the xtreme firmware v5 (donnu if it even exists) is there any probability that future backups require v6 for example?

for a benq you NEED a via6421a or L chipset pci sata card.There are very few onbo sata that will work.
If you google that im sure you can find some one on that side of the world that will ship to you.

there are many,many that have flashed there console and everything went perfect.you just need to go step by step and dont skip any thing.

the hacked firmware you are going to flash in is
ixtreme v1.4 of v1.41 if you have a benq dvd drive.
and
yes they come out with updated firmware from time to time.some you need to reflash your console and other are just a update and are not needed if you dont want to mess with them.
