Re: I'm going to kick it out the window
no stack errors, trying this on a new comp. i am following the guide verbatim. boot into dos, press y to resend mtk, turn on xbox. wait 2 secs after it toggles, then turn it off. it pauses at d1. turn it back on, it goes to 0x73 and then freezes at reading bank 0...

Re: I'm going to kick it out the window
Try a different flash or go to the floppy drive and try that
Re: I'm going to kick it out the window
im trying a floppy now but its doing the same thing...i downloaded drivers for the 6421 via card i have and it must be reading it cause it responds to the toggle but it will never progres passed reading bank 0

Re: I'm going to kick it out the window
I would try the floppy drive if you can. Pick up a bootdisk maker at bootdisk.com, one used for flashing firmwares that way it has nothing else on it, download dosflash and put the two files it comes with on the floppy. You have to know your I/O address for the sata port that your using though, you can find this out by running msinfo32 from the run box. Boot to dos, turn on the Benq, type in "dosflash r XXXX 1 a 1 4 a:orig.bin 0" replace the XXXX with your I/O address though and don't use the quotes. Then hit enter. Hit Y to resend and enter. Should flip between status codes. Turn off Benq, wait 5 seconds, turn on Benq. Should lock on the on status code and start reading. Using floppies takes a little longer though. If this works, I'll give you the rest of the commands to do after that, but lets get it reading first.

Thanks man, I'll have to try this tomorrow tho. I appreciate all your guys help sticking it out on this one. I know its a pain in the ass...

Re: I'm going to kick it out the window
oh, I think you already tried it this way, but just in case, if it won't read by having the drive already powered up just after you get to dos, try leaving it off till after you type the doshflash command, then in a quick succession, turn it on, off, and then on again.

Ok that's the card I'm using...
Theres also one thing I dont get about iprep. It's a driver issue related to the pci sata card. You download drivers for the card, yes? But these drivers are for your OS (WinXP/Win98,etc) and not DOS...and when you flash the benQ they tell you to disable all other drives in the BIOS before flashing. But if you do all that, then why wouldn't this disable the drivers for the pci sata card too??? I think that's whats happening to mine because it is freezing on bank 0... And wouldn't this be the time when the card is supposed to be reading and transferring info? Thus drivers necessary??? Can someone link the best drivers for the card above in the newegg link if I am just completely wrong?
I'm told these are the best drivers (ie they work) VIA v5.20c drivers

Re: I'm going to kick it out the window
Drivers for sata are whats called embedded. If you notice that when you boot your PC, just before it goes into windows, you'll see that sata controllers interface come up and scan for sata devices. This is the cards own BIOS doing this. Once drivers are installed, it works in DOS, or in Windows. It's function in DOS is not dependent upon windows.
At any rate, I downloaded my drivers from viaarena. You can get the latest drivers there or if you want to try 5.2c, click here.

Grasping at straws here, but something I would do is start over from scratch. re download all of the programs, the hacked firmware etc. Then try it all again. I have had slight data issues that made me want to pull my hair out. Sometimes on downloads, and moving files around you can get data corruption. Just a thought.

Ok cool, that prolly limits it to a data thing or a driver thing. I'll start completly fresh and re-acquire the necessary components of the process. You think those 52c drivers are the best to use for this? What do you recommend???
Thanks as always guys.

Re: I'm going to kick it out the window
Mine worked fine with the drivers that windows picked up for it. I have a different card though so that may not be much help. Let us know how it goes.

True. I found windows xp embedded drivers for my 6421...do I need to use those instead of the regular drivers...?
These I found at viaarena (thanks)

Re: I'm going to kick it out the window
The regular drivers are what you need. Thats the full install, and includes the embedded drivers. Just use the ones that I linked to if you want to try changing the drivers. Something else that I just thought of, you might check to see if the sata card is seated properly in the PCI slot. If it's not seated fully in the slot, that can cause problems like your seeing as well. Might even pull the card out and blow the slot out just in case there might be some dust in there preventing a good contact, this isn't very likely though.
