Alright, so I'm pretty sure I toasted my Hitachi drive trying to do the pot tweak as it will no longer play originals or backups. I am in the process of doing the x clamp fix on my sammy 28 and don't have the thermal paste I need. So that being said I decided to try the next option so that my kids would have xbox for this weekend. I decided to spoof my Sammy as a Hitachi 47. I have never done a spoof so I called in a professional. Cofree stopped by and handled it like it was nothing. I am no longer worthy of his presence! I probably could have done it, but my confidence was shot after the pot tweak fiasco. I still am not sure where I went wrong there.

Anyways, I have been hard timing cofree a lot lately, and he has no sense of humor, and he is very sensitive. So I am publicly giving him credit for a job well done on my spoofing project to make up for bustin' his balls so much lately.

Well that was awfully nice of CoFree to stop by and spoof for ya, we need to have a BBQ for all the FL people. :D

The laser may have been very weak to begin with. That would explain why it had such a low value on the pot on your initial reading. Out of curiosity, what was the reading on it right before it quite reading originals?

CoFree is a great guy in my opinion, but he like the rest of us is only human. If your public display of gratitude doesn't bring his humor back in line, give him a hug man!! :D

Come to find out the tutorial was showing the wrong points for my particular drive. I was getting a constant 2.32 even when I adjusted. When I finally realized what was going on I think it was already fried.

Wow, yeah I don't know about the huggin' part man. :o Maybe a good firm handshake!

Well, just put it back together and seems to be working fine. I'll know more when I've had a chance to let it run for awhile. Cofree's working on the 12 volt fan mod for it right now. I've got a hit 47 on the way from hong kong for my hitachi that I fried the laser on. Hope it shows up soon.

Good job jman! You have bigger cahones than myself, I'm overnighting that bad boy to someone I trust before attempting the X-clamp fix.

update: Thanks Sess, Got it all back together this morning. Seems like everything is working fine. I would have to say that in the future if I do another one I would not do the fix on the cpu until after I had done it on the gpu and given that a try. Basically one at a time. I figure if it ain't broke then don't fix it. Anyways, I'll update you again if I have any problems with it.

(Wow, some of this x-Clamp talk towards the beginning of this thread was good and should probably be in the tutorial section as variables for others trying to do the same.)

Jman, I'm curious about your 360 that got the RROD...with the Samsung MS28 drive, right?--you said you had the Talismoon fan in it, I wonder...did you have the Talismoon fan in it from the beginning, or did you install it after having owned it for a while? Did you run the Talismoon at 5v, or 12? Also, did that 360 have a Falcon chipset in it, or the older one?

Regards
(...and glad to hear you are getting things fixed up...I know my kids would have a cow if their 360s were out for a weekend!)

I've had two RRoD's in 1.5 years. The first had a Talismoon Fan about two months after I bought it, the second had a Talismoon fan for its entire life cycle. It will not prevent the RRoD by itself in my view, but it is a good deterrent. The best way to prevent the RRoD is to keep your 360 well ventilated, and install the 12v fan mod and wind tunnel mod. Even then it's still a deterrent. There is no 100% fix, the X-clamp is probably the closest thing, though I don't think it's a good idea to install one as a preventative measure. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thanks for the answers. All I've done to both of my 360s (before using them at all) was to install the Talismoon fan and the DVD drive scratch-proof pads. I just run the fans at 5v (I guess I'm a bit paranoid about the reports of possible Live bans due to 12v fan mods). After reading about Jman's RROD even though he had a Talismoon fan in it, I wanted to know what *more* I could do to avoid the RROD. I didn't know about the wind tunnel mod. Both my 360s have the Falcon chipset, maybe that will help them avoid the RROD.

From what I've read there is no conclusive evidence that the 12v fan mods are directly responsible for Live bans, in those instances there was no way to prove that the bans weren't the result of something else, i.e. playing a non-stealth backup on Live. I'm pretty sure some of the guys here play on Live with a 12v fan mod, though I'm not 100% on that.

The wind tunnel mod is very easy, here's a guide: http://rbjtech.bulldoghome.com/pages/rb ... box360.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The 12v fan mod requires soldering. The Talismoon Whisper Max has a nitro button which can up the voltage to the fan from 5v to 12v. However it draws the extra voltage from the 360 DVD-ROM drive, which may lead to problems down the road.

Neo Rio, I'm sorry it took so long to reply to your question. I didn't have the Talismoon fan in it. It was completely stock except for the hacked fw. My kids have logged a lot of hours on that ms 28 so I'm not surprised that she bit the dust. I now have the x-clamp fix, the 12v fan mod and the wind tunnel mod. Total cost for all about $3.00 usd and that was only because I used stainless steel screws. I will keep you up to date on whether I get banned for the mods or not. I really don't care to much except that I like to get the updates when they include some new features.

Nice Jman!! I was wondering about your outcome this weekend, but it being memorial day weekend, I had family over the entire time and didn't have time to check in.
