RRoD Sh%$##^&^$#$TTTTTTTT!
Well it looks like an x clamp fix in my very near future. The three red rings showed up on me a few minutes ago. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

Damn sorry to hear that man. I feel your pain, I've gone through two in 1.5 years, each time with a Talismoon fan installed. You probably can do the X-clamp yourself, but if not I believe there is a 360 sage somewhere who can help you, you probably know who I mean.
This sage got mine up and working with an error 110. He also did the 12v fan mod and my 360 runs great!
Good luck with the X-clamp and keep us posted!

Yeah, Cofree's done at least one that I know of, and he only lives about 15 minutes from me. I'll probably con him into doing it since he wants me to get him a deck built at his river land!
Nice to have leverage!

Lol, I was referring to the other sage, but CoFree is exceptional as well, I'm sure there won't be any issues. Hopefully he has a bit better balance on land than in the sea.

Jman, if CoFree doesn't want to help you out, give me a holler.

Thanks man. I went and got the screws this morning. I should be able to follow the guide fairly well. Cofree will help me, I'm not worried about that, but it seems your success rate is pretty high so I may talk to you anyways.

No problem man. Just take your time with it and don't forget to put something in, like the washers underneath or above the board. The most important thing is getting the washers underneath the board the right height. When you put the board in you want it to be able to lay perfectly flat and not flex either up or down when you tighten the bolts up. You probably already know that this is controlled by the number of washers that you use.

Re: RRoD Sh%$##^&^$#$TTTTTTTT!
Sadalius, what is the reasoning behind only one washer on the cpu and two on the gpu? They both stand the same distance off the board. I am assuming that you want to be able to apply more pressure to the cpu? With the washers I used it will allow the board to flex almost a 16th of an inch! I shouldn't crank it all the way down to those washers should I? I am ready to put it back together, just have to go get some thermal paste. I just don't want to make any mistakes.

I'm not 100% positive on why that is. I just know of that it works
I know, I know, a lot of help I am on your question, but I have to be honest. If I had to fathom a guess, I would say it would have to do with component height on the motherboard, or possibly chip die thickness, but I haven't actually researched it either. But it sounds like your on right path though.
On the cranking the bolts down, you don't have to. I just run them down a little at a time until they are pretty snug. That meaning you could put more pressure on them if you wanted to, but not much more, and then loosen them by 1/4 turn.
On your thermal paste, make sure to get arctic silver 5 or ceramic. The ceramic is the best stuff, but costs a little more. AS5 is pretty good stuff too. I use the AS5 because my local radio shack stocks it, but not the as ceramic.

Thanks for the response man. I am in the middle of doing a pot tweak on my hitachi as we speak, so by tomorrow I figure I'll either have two working xboxes or my kids will be pissed at me for killing them both!

no problem man, make sure CoFree knows to let me know if I need to come attend the funeral!! Not the 360's if you can get them going, but yours for the same reason. Kids hate it when their stuff goes bad, but then you know that already

Hey while I've got your ear, The tutorial for the pot tweak says it should read out between 3.4 and 4.2 ohms. Mine reads at 2.32 ohms. I wonder if it didn't come too hot from the factory and my laser is already fried. The tutorial says to turn it to around 3 ohms and I'm already well past that!

Re: RRoD Sh%$##^&^$#$TTTTTTTT!
hmmmm.... I would try to adjust it back to at least 3 or just a smidge higher if you could and try it out. If it don't work, then you could just get a replacement drive since you could get a dump of the drive.
I have to run right now, got to go pick up my new eyeballs (contact lenses) but I'll be back on it a little while to see how you faired.
