try the v1.4 firmware on the samsung first.i dont think its going to help
after what all youve done i think the laser is the thing to try

I have a Hitachi 360 I may try thats brand new in the box, but am I going to run into the same issues as the m25 with the drive getting weak and such?

Its got a MFR date of 2005-11-25

I have yet to crack it open to check the version number cuz Im dreading getting the version I'd have to solder.

if you have a new 360 and it has a hit drive its a safe bet its a v79

thats the way i got mine both in one kit
the link i put up for you was just the usb360

that drive is easy to flash with the right tools.
