Question about unreadable discs
Question about unreadable discs
After a patch on about 12/15 or so I have backups that have suddenly stopped being readable.
Ive tried searching for a good answer on this, but have not seen anything on the forums here.
Im currently running ixtreme 1.2 and have toyed with the idea of updating to 1.4
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Dias

Does all of your backups not work or just some? I would assume that originals still work right??

Re: Question about unreadable discs
Yes, all originals still read perfect.
It seems to be my more recent games that are having the issue.
Can still play my Halo 3 backup and alot of the discs ive had. The only thing that has changed recently is I am using an updated version of Xbox Backup Creator, running the latest version I could find.
I was using the last version of DVD Decrypter, now running ImgBurn.
Same ISO burned in both programs. The disc will start, then go unreadable after a couple minutes (normally before getting loaded into the game)

Re: Question about unreadable discs
If you have some backups that are working and some that are not, I would venture to say it could be one of three things.
1. Bad media.
2. DVD drive overheating.
3. Laser getting weak.
These are only possibilities though. It may not be what your issue is. Issues like this are hard to pinpoint and usually takes some time to get to the final answer.

Re: Question about unreadable discs
if you just changed to img burn.
did you go in and change the burn speed
to no faster than 2.4x
did you go in and change the burn speed

Re: Question about unreadable discs
Yes, but I have only burned one disc thru ImgBurn. Im going thru my discs and seeing what works and what doesnt.

If you are putting labels on your disks, that can also cause a problem.

Re: Question about unreadable discs
I am not, but I have noticed the discs that seem to be going unreadable grind when the disc spin rate changes. It tends to error out about that time.
Is it a possiblity of needing to change the firmware to something else speed wise? I dont even know which one I used originally, but I know the 1.4 has 4-5 speeds to choose from, but I dont really know how to tell what I should use

Re: Question about unreadable discs
you can reflash it so you will know what firmware you have in it.
the 360 comes with 12x speed stock.i always use that speed 12x.
the only time i had a wield sound from my drive i had messed up on my burns.dumped to fast or burned to fast or was using bad disc.

Re: Question about unreadable discs
Ok, so I use XBC to dump to iso.
So the speed I rip the disc will effect it later on after burning?
Should I set it to 4x or slower on ripping? Apparently it defaults to 12x(I just looked).

Re: Question about unreadable discs
Ok, re-ripped at 4x and burned the new disc using ImgBurn at 2.4
Same issue as before.
So now Im going to flash to 1.4 12x and see if it helps.
Dont have a multimeter, so cant do the laser power tweak. So we'll see what happens

Re: Question about unreadable discs
well messing with your laser should be your last resort.
if your old way worked go back to that and see what happens.

Re: Question about unreadable discs
Update:
I just modded a friends brand new out of the box BenQ. (excellent video btw cofree on the IPrep/BenQ flashing)
Every disc I had burned in testing my older ms25 drive, worked flawlessly and quiet in his box.
So, that should rule the discs and burning methods out as the issue and points at the drive itself.
Im going to re-flash my box to 1.4 with 12x fw and see if it helps. If that does not help, I may borrow a multimeter and attempt tweaking the laser as a last resort.
