if you built your own rs232 ttl converter and wish to test it, connect it to your PC and bridge the TX and RX lines, then use hyperterminal to create a connection to the com port that your ttl converter is on. When you type something in the terminal window, it should be echoed back to you. In other words, you should be able to see what your typing. If you un-bridge the TX and RX lines, you should not be able to see what your typing. Of course you'll have to provide the proper power to the converter as well.
This is called a loopback test.

You mean connect the rx and tx wires? Im my case its the red and black wire beside it. So connect thos wires, insert the db9 port of my device into serial port of my pc? About the hyperterminal how do it approach that? I found the hyperterminal but unfortunately dont know what to do.

Once you figure out which line is TxD and RxD of the device, you could solder a safety pin or a small straightened out paper clip to the wire and use that as a probe.
So ur saying i could get a "paper clip" or some other similar device and connect the end of the ttl wires to one end of the "paper clip" and the other side would be inserted into the r707 hole on the drive? Also,

,this meaning on the converter i should run two wires:
1. Gnd from the device to the GND on the drive?
2. Voltage from the device to the voltage on the drive?

Yep, if you use a probe, that's all you'd have to solder...
You could always try something like
this for your probe...

im not able to test the device. I opened hyperterminal and set up the connection, wen i go the white screen i type but nothing comes up. The schematic i used didn't say a voltage line should be connected to the db9 connecter, should I have connected one?
Thx

I think you need 3.3V, but I'm not at all sure on that...

I recreated the adapter, the solder was touching, its good now, still need to test it tho. My question is, the end of the ttl side (the four wire running out) TXD, RXD, GND and Voltage, should that be connected to one end of a paper clip and the other end will run into the R707 hole right?
Also, in a thread i read it states that I could use a Knar wire and connect one end knar wire to the TXD pad on the drive and the other end runs to the R707 hole, so only the voltage and GND wires of the adapter will be connected to the drive? Is this correct? So what about the TXD and RXD of the adapter, what should I do with them. If this process works I'll use it, but there was another method that was post :
Now, as for a probe, if you solder the tx, rx, ground and voltage lines, you actually won't need a probe because you would have completed all the connections. But if you wanted to get fancy, you wouldn't have to solder the drives TxD point (R707) at all or the RxD (R708) either. Once you figure out which line is TxD and RxD of the device, you could solder a safety pin or a small straightened out paper clip to the wire and use that as a probe. So all you would solder to the drive itself is the ground and voltage lines. Then when you got ready to get your key, identify and inquiry files just insert your "probe" into the R707 hole and click the get keys button on jungleflasher or use iprep either one and it should work.
So the question is, what needs to be soldered to the safety pin (
probe), just the TXD and RXD of the device or just the RXD or all four??

I believe it's only Txd you need for your probe...
The knar wire is
here, that might help you out...

I see, so basically the TXD (transmit line) would be soldered to the safety and inserted into the R707 hole, the Gnd and voltage wires can be soldered or taped to their respective areas. eg. device Gnd to drive Gnd and device voltage to drive voltage. So what about the RXD (Receiving line) what would I do with that? It's left unused? Or could it be soldered to another safety pin and inserted into the R708?
And when all the points are connected and i get my key.bin, inquiry.bin and identifier.bin files should all the points be left connected to the drive while flashing or they can be de-soldered?
Thx

you dont have to do anything with the rx now that flash goes in by the sata cable.
i would leave it all hooked up till after the flash.

Hey guys im having a prob, i connected my lite-on to my computer via the SATA cable, Its the same SATA that i've used on my previous mods. My prob is the pc does not recognize my lite-on, in jungle flasher it reads the drive being on primary SATA port but on the com port section its blank. What could be the prob??

I have the SATA hooked up, the xbox is on and i have a com port on my pc, its com 1. My rs232 device is powered by the drive, so i think thats why, do u think adding a on/off switch on the rs232 device would help? Hey, and all three are hooked up.
Thx

Thanks man. Don't know what to do man. I'm going to disconnect all the connection from the xbox to the pc, restart and open jungle flasher again and see if it shows the com 1 port. I'm lost.
I restarted but it still doesn't show the COM port that I have, which is the serial port on the back of my pc. By the way does the rs232 device i made should i install some sort of drivers for it?
Thx
