Why one would want to would be the question. The work it takes to get the 79 to where you can dump the firmware to get the key, you might as well just flash the 79 to begin with.

yes this is possible read this tutorial, but it is pain to actually dump the firmware of the new hit drives as you have to have solder skills and also a slax disk. why not get a old hit drives easy to deal with.
here is the tutorial which may help

sadalius is right on the money here.
if you go through all the work to get the key off the v79 just flash it.the v79 hit dvd drive is a good drive, just a pain to
dump/flash

yep.. sadalius is right
I was assuming his drive is already flashed & he has the key but for 1 reason or another he wants to replace it with a sammy. Just the way I read it :|

& also... for the fact of the matter, why would anyone want to change a perfectly working drive for another...

I guess we'll have to wait for flyimages reply to understand exactly where he is coming from ;)

Thats just my general response to those wanting to spoof a drive to replace a hit 79 drive. I know that there are going to be a select few that will want to swap drives regardless to how much work is involved, but I give my response that way in case they don't know how much work is involved so they can make an informed decision.

If it were me, and the 79 drive worked normally, and I was going to go through the trouble of installing a passkey to dump it, I would just go ahead and flash the 79 and save the money from buying another drive. But if it were giving me problems, then I would try and replace it.
