----------------------------------------Speaking to investors last week, Microsoft chief operating officer, Dennis Durkin, spoke of potential business opportunities in using Kinect to target game marketing and advertising, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
“We can cater which content we present to you based on who you are,” said Durkin. “How many people are in the room when an ad is shown? How many people are in the room when a game is being played? When you add this sort of device to a living room, there’s a bunch of business opportunities that come with that.”
While the concepts expressed present a number of privacy concerns, Microsoft's own Kinect Privacy and Online Safety FAQ states the the company "may analyze performance data to ensure users are receiving the optimal game experience, and to help improve Kinect games and the Xbox 360 platform. We may also share some of this aggregated data with companies that provide Kinect-enabled games which will help them improve their product."
