"Apple's dogs of law have been set upon cheeky Chinese upstart MIC Gadget after it started flogging Steve Jobs dolls."

The gadget-maker's lawyers fired off the legal missive just days after MIC announced a second batch of the 'Phenomenal SJ Figure' which features a beautifully-crafted and highly detailed Steve Jobs complete with the obligatory black turtleneck, Levis and New Balance trainers. He's also clutching a miniature iPhone 4 though the sculptor has been careful not to give Mini Jobs the infamous death grip.

Apple wrote to the outfit saying "Unauthorized use of a person’s name and/or likeness constitutes a violation of California Civil Code Section 3344, which prohibits the use of any person’s name, photograph or likeness in a product without that person’s prior consent."

It might have something to do with the fact that MIC takes great delight in promoting cheap Chinese knock-offs of Apple products, icluding a $100 iPhone 4 clone.

MIC has apologised to Apple and Jobs, withdrawn the $80 figurine from sale, and asked if it can apply for a trademark licence, even cheekily suggesting that the iDoll could be bundled with future iPhone 4 purchases.

The day that happens is the day someone decides a Steve Wozniak doll would be a big seller. And anyway, Apple would probably put it in a flashy box, sell it for $200 and not let you play with it.
