Burnt First Game....Questions
alright well the game seems to play fine...althought it's much louder than playing the original ? like its struggling to read the disc it or something
is this normal ? or did i do something wrong while burning ?
will it strain my 360 drive an ruin it ? i really hope not
i used verbatim dvd+r dl 8x discs burning @ 2.4x....made in singapore....with azo dye it says
also it seems i can't get my drive to booktype to dvd-rom...so i just left it as dvd+r dl
i read that this isn't too important unless your 360 has an hitachi drive ? is that right ?
thanks guys.

Re: Burnt First Game....Questions
Booktyping the games isn't really important important unless you are running ancient Xtreme firmware. Somewhere around Xtreme 3.0 it stopped being mandatory to booktype 360 backups to DVD-ROM. It's a good idea to try and get your burner to booktype, but it shouldn't make a big difference as long as you use quality DL media. The handful of games that weren't booktyped with my Hitachi played fine. I can't speak to whether or not there may be issues down the road, I only had 1 or 2 games that were not booktyped on my Hitachi. It is possible that the non-booktyped disc is causing the drive a bit more strain than than a booktyped disc.
If you are concerned about booktyping, what is the make and model of your burner? It should tell you in ImgBurn. Type the make and model of your dvd writer into this link and you can find out a ton of information about it.
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters
If you can find the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) of your drive then you can go about figuring out how to booktype it. Many DVD drives are rebadges made by the same couple companies. Most likely you will be able to do it through ImgBurn.
No matter how good of DVD+R DL discs you use, they will not be the same as reading an original game. It's just the nature of the beast, DL media is not as good of quality as pressed (original) DVD-ROM's. Verbatim's will put minimal stress on your 360 laser. It's far more likely your 360 hardware will fail because of inherent design flaws than using backups.

Re: Burnt First Game....Questions
Well it could be a game that streams video constantly. Try your other backups and see if you get the same issue. It could be a result of the disc not being booktyped, I'm not sure to be honest, 99% of my discs are booktyped and I have a MS-28 drive in my current 360. That's why I recommended figuring out how to booktype your drive. I believe you posted a screencap of ImgBurn in another thread, I'll see if I can track down the OEM for your drive.
If you don't notice the drive straining with other backups, then it probably is an issue with that disc or game. You could run the disc through quality and surface scans in Nero CD-DVD Speed, just to be sure it's not a defective disc.

Re: Burnt First Game....Questions
phillips/lite-on DH16A1L sata drive....rebadged i guess...came with my hp desktop
i really can't find much for this drive...anywhere
yea i've tired messing with the booktype to no avail...i tired with liteon tool an it says f/w not support!
i've also updated my firmware like twice...stil doesn't let me change the booktype.
my discs are 8x up to 10x verbs....so actually even though i choose to burn at 2.4 its still burning at 4x right ? i don't know
could that be a problem ?
i guess i'll burn another game to see how it reads.....really just seems a bit stressfull when it's loading/bringing up a menus in game....though while playing it seems fine.
the game i'm referring to is bioshock
also when the game loads in the begining seems a bit choppy....but then the rest of the game so far is just fine.
i flashed my benq with 12x....could that be an issue ? or not in loud loading for backups
i'm just trying to put it all on the table an figure out whats wrong wrong ..if anything
thanks man.

Re: Burnt First Game....Questions
Looks like a Liteon from what I read. It seems booktyping that drive is a bit of challenge. There a couple things to try. You can try using the advanced booktyping option demonstrated in this thread.
http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?show ... l=booktype
That will send the booktype command to the drive from within ImgBurn. It may not work though.
You could also try the Liteon Settings utility. It may work with your drive. It will allow you to make permanent changes to the booktype of your discs, you can set the booktype for DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM once, click the save box, and the change should be permanent. It's not guaranteed to work with your drive.
Get it here: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/utilities/Sett ... -1.1.0.rar
Here is a thread showing a bit about how to use it: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/settings-u ... ew-241940/
The problem could be the 8x or 10x discs maybe, I always use the 2.4x-6x discs. Still, burning at 4x on discs rated for 8x or 10x should not produce low quality burns.
Or there may be no problem at all. If this issue does not show up with other games, it could be a low quality burn in this case or just how the 360 reads Bioshock.

Re: Burnt First Game....Questions
well same result with halo 3...although it plays flawlessly so far...from the intro an so forth seems perfect.
i mean it's not really that its tooo loud...just the fact that it sounds different when reading these discs oppossed to normal 360 games.....i still think this might be normal....that or next time for sure i'll get the 2.4x verbs...see of that'll help
oh well...i''ll try messing with the booktype later again but i won't my hopes up.
long as the burns work it's good enough for now i guess.
thanks again man.

Re: Burnt First Game....Questions
well to be honest dont worry about it too much as that will obviously happen with a backup, like Sesshomaru said they wont play like original, my drive does the same and even if the booktype is set to normal it still would make the same noise ie will be loud. all my games are loud and even if i use any other media they burn and sound pretty much the same so i wouldnt worry about it too much, unless the drive starts scratching your disk.

Re: Burnt First Game....Questions
I saw where you said you burned the game @ 2.4x, but I didn't see what speed you dumped the game at in xbc. It is also recommended that you dump the game at a slow speed. You might want to check and see that you got a good, slow read.

Re: Burnt First Game....Questions
the drive will make some noise
the biggest thing to listen for is a lot of laser clicking.if the laser is clicking a lot the that means it having hard time read the disc.
