BEEN HAVING A LOOK ROUND THE INTERNET SEEMS THIS NEW UPDATE DONT EFFECT THE HITACHI AND SAMSUNG DRIVES SO MUST BE THE AP25 CHECK. LOOKS LIKE WE ARE GOING TO NEED A NEW PATCH FOR GAMES IN ABGX. THOSE WHO HAVE UPDATED AND GET THE BLACK SCREEN NEED TO TURN THE CONSOLE OFF WITHIN THREE MINUTES TO STOP IT FLAGGING YOU. IT GOES BLACK BECAUSE THATS THE LT+ FIRMWARE PROTECTION KICKING IN FOR THE AP25 CHECK. IF YOU HAVE UPDATED AND HAVE A OLDER IXTREME FIRMWARE AND GET DISC NOT RECOGNISED YOU MAY BE FLAGGED YOU NEED TO CHECK WITH XVAL. STAY SAFE DO NOT UPDATE UNTIL COFREE GIVES US MORE INFO

to late for me. i updated today and all seemed fine now i go to play black ops and its black screen.

i heard about this update this morn of a m8 with a stock box but iv only just sat down to read about it...
so now im just taking the update on my lt+ sammy in stead of the liteon's just to see if ?
i own blops but id hate to see all my hard work (flashs) come undone just to play it !

having a non ap2.5 console (sammy at least iv not got a hit) drive dont matter with the new update it wont play any ap2.5 games, all origs work and all older bkups too
glad iv kept them lite away from it :phew:
but plugging in my sammy 2006 model it REALLY REALLY didnt like the KINECT attached i got RROD error 0102 gpu/cpu/ram error its been a while since iv seen 1 gona fit some glowy fans to it.

but there you go 1 sammy tested and failed also to play bkups, so be warned !

So is it correct that this update does not affect the Hitachi Drives or would you recommend just staying away from updating altogether until a new FW is released?

updateing via usb is for banned consoles i beleive (mainly anyway)

and iv not read about hit being erm, hit yet
im sure somebody here will check soon tho

and stay away from updateing unless you have a few hit !

what is the point of doing the update via the USB?

for a long time now the site has recommended running a 2 console setup
one console that is stock for all on line play with original game disc
the 2nd console a flashed dvd drive for all games that you want to be able to play backup game disc in
and just moving the HD back and forth
updating by usb lets you have the updated dash on a flash console
even though it will never be hooked up to live again

there is some speculation
Some of this ap25 check and this latest dash update
is a way to get to the console we will never put back on live

I have a Samsung m25, and ive read that the new update doesn't effect them. (or hitachi)
Should i update via usb/cd/dvd or even reflash to stock update then flash to LT1.0 again.

I know this is very premature, i figured i would just ask though.

Just dont update for the time being. Who know's what microsoft has done now, maybe that have ap 3.5 who knows.

Think of it this way

Updating:
- You could be banned, or flagged for a ban if not already
- Could (and it looks like you will) lose the ability to play your backups, LT+ or not
- Who know's what else, could be loads more bad things.

Not Updating:
- Cannot play on live without the update

So is it really necessary to update right now? Just hold off a little bit until all the details about this are figured out, think of how you'd feel if you updated only to find out a couple day's later an entirely new firmware and backup method needs to be created. So now your stuck not being able to play any of your backups, hell they could even do a bunch of bannings, then you'd be left with the inability to play online, or use backups. So is playing online really worth it, for some people it is, and feel free and update but know there are all kinds of things that can happen to you.

We've suggested using 2 consoles at least as an optimal setup for cases like this.
