Hi guys,
I am still having this problem and i have tried a new console with a 78 drive and tried 3 different pc's. The bios seems to pick up the drive alright, even before attempting to get it into mode b. but it still wont go into mode b. ill list my chipset versions if it helps at all getting it working.
pc1: intel p35/g33/g31
Southbridge intel 82801IB (ICH9)
pc2: intel i865p/pe/g/i848p
Southbridge: intel 82801eb (ICH5)
IF anyone can shed some light on what im doing wrong or how i could fix it, that would be great. thanks

Re: Reposting 78 dvd drive refusing to go into mode b
I have discovered that the ata problem changes from ata1 to 2,3,and 4 according to which sata slot i put it into. Which gives me the suspicion that its not actually "ata" but reffering to "sata", this would make more sense but i dont know if it helps

as far as i no they will not be compatible to flash the 78 drive as i myself was unsuccesfull using two of those chipsets. as msk askd what slax version are u using, if its the new one try using the older version of slax, shud b in 360 download section

thanks, do you think maybe would getting a sata chipset would work for it? or is it the chipset on the motherboard that is causeing the problem?

Do you have the most up to date chipset drivers for your motherboard?

man
that is why i cant stand the hit drives.
i could never get the via6421a sata card in ether of my computers to find the v78 muchless get it in modeb.
i am lucky that my good computer will get it in modeb using the onboard sata. intel R chipset.
just dont give up is all i can say.
try a different sata controller.
sadalius should be back this week.
he may have more on this.
if you get it make sure to post back.it will help other you can bet.

I agree with the other diagnostics here. Try a different sata controller. I use a sata card based off the via chipset, via 6421a I think, either that or 6421l, I can't remember which revision it is, but it works great with every drive that I've ever connected to it, including hit 78's with slax 2.1 frodo edition.
