Quesiton on sending 360 in for repair
Quesiton on sending 360 in for repair
I currently have a 360 thats giving me a E74. The console has a BenQ drive which is modded. I was able to remove the Microsoft seal sticker and put it back on without messing it up when I did the mod. Im wondering if I should send it in or attempt to fix it myself. I've done several xclamp repairs before but I would rather just get a new system. The only thing Im afraid of is getting one of the new Liteon drives. Has anybody recently got a replacement back, and if so what drive did you have? I've already tried a new A/V cable and that didn't work. What would you all recommend?

quote from Xbox-Scene FAQ:
"E74: There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In some cases it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp replacement (see error 0102)"
I think the chances of getting the new lite-on drive is increasing every day. Its popping up more and more. The odds of getting a moddable drive are decreasing. I know a lot of them were coming back with the hit 79, which to me is better than the lite-on although still not an ideal option. I would personally try to fix the box before I would send it in, and then if you can't fix it buy a new system. That's just me though. I would hate to hand over a moddable benq drive and risk getting one back that nothing could be done with.

Thanks for the quick response Jman. Ive also been having issues with my power supply. Every so often it will be red instead of the orange color its supposed to be. Im going to test out the power supply unit. The 360 itself was manufactured only 7 months ago. I've had the power supply ever since I got my first 360 at launch. Hopefully its just the power supply, I wouldnt bet on it though.

red light on the ps ? that's not good...
get a new brick...worth a try.
i wouldn't send it in either really, you will get a lite-on/v79 hit almost 100%.
good luck.
