Bad flash on samsung MS28

Post by gerryb10 »

Hi,

I recently tried to flash my sammy drive with iprep 006 using ixtreme firmware. But I did a bad flash I didnt read the original firmware correctly and I then proceeded to flash the with the hacked firmware which I did succesfully. I then hooked the 360 drive back up to the xbox and powered up only to be greeted by error 65. Also I dont have the orig.bin to restore it to its original firmware so is there any way I could remedy this problem?

If your getting e65, it sounds as if you flashed it with the wrong firmware or didn't get it fully flashed. Check the bin that your flashing it with in firmware toolbox to see if you have a valid drive key. If you don't have a valid key, you need to find that original and check it. if it doesn't have a good key, its game over.

If your hacked bin is good. try re-flashing it.

Hi

thanks for replying,

This is what happened, its in the bit where you do the 10 second trick and it then starts to read the 4 banks and it said finished datasum and then it gave me an error message about sam ofw.bin does not exist this was in red then it said reboot your pc. I tried this a couple more times but it kept giving me that error so I then just proceeded to flash and I thought it had flashed it correctly but e65 error message was what I got.

Oh man..... If both your original and hacked bins are showing F's that drive is done for. You have to have that key in order for the xbox to be able to play games. It's easy enough to fix a bad flash if you have a good firmware, but even a good firmware without a key will only play DVD movies and music...

if you have a cfw.bin you should have an ofw.bin. Make sure to look real good, I hate when bad flashes happen like this. If you can find the ofw.bin and it has a good key, you should be able to recover it.

Check around. I was almost postive there is a thread that talks about recovering files and such but I can't seem to find it at the moment.

You'll need some sort of data recovery software to try and recover the files from your USB stick. I'm not sure what software to suggest though.

MsK, if you have any suggestions, feel free to jump in man. I know you've done some data recovery in your day :D

Yep, this has come up a few times... I have also tested & it is possible to retrieve data from a formatted usb drive ;)

Hi MsK,
Thanks for answering for me. I have used Power Recovery Software. Downloaded the software . Cheers!!!!!!!
There's a whole load of recovery software packages out there, you need something that is non destructive...

I think sanjaybenjamin used this >> http://www.powerecovery.com/features.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I havn't used this 1 before tho - so I can not confirm it will do the trick but it is non-destructive so you have nothing to lose in trying ;)
To preserve the drive with the lost or deleted files, all recovered files must be saved to another storage device or another drive letter in the system. POWER RECOVERY® for Windows is a non-destructive read-only application and will not write or make changes to the drive it is recovering from.
let us know how you get on

Also.. it's worth mentioning that you should be able to recover the files but in some cases the directory names & even the filenames themselves do not always remain intact!

basicly recover everything you can - if the filenames have changed // all is not lost, the files u need are 256kb in size, these are what you are targetting & hopefully the extentions remain eg. xxxx.bin ;)
