On the GPU and CPU, I use 3 metal washers on each bolt to provide a stand off between the case and motherboard. I actually run the bolts through the case as well. Then on top the motherboard, on the GPU, I use 2 metal washers on each bolt, fresh arctic silver thermal compound and then attach the heat sink. On the CPU, I use 1 metal washer on each bolt above the motherboard, then fresh arctic silver and then attach the heat sink. Tighten everything down snug, but not over tightened and try it out.

12mm in length x 5mm diameter for the gpu, 16mmx5mm for the gpu. You have to drill the case to 5mm holes for the bolts to pass through though. Also, watch the thickness of the washers, when you stack three of them together, they need to be the same height as the stand offs that came off the heat sinks to keep the motherboard flat.

I've had no problems myself. I've only seen one of my repairs ever have any problems. I use all metal washers. Latest firmware is ixtreme 1.4 for all but benq's, which is a minor 1.41 version difference. We are expecting 1.5 to be out some time in the very near future. We suspect probably after the NXE update on the 19th.

Did you put fresh thermal compound on the CPU and GPU when replacing their heatsinks?

Need to check your fans. The 2 red lights meant that the 360 was over heating. I'm not sure why the fans would have behaved like that though. Make sure the heatsinks are properly seated onto the CPU and GPU like their supposed to be. That is weird for sure. Have you checked your error code since getting 3 red lights again?

Also, check to make sure that the bottom of the motherboard is not making any contact with the metal case. If you did it right, you should have 3 washers on each bolt to act as stand offs. If you didn't, you may have fried your board, or if the right amount of contact between the motherboard and metal case (short to ground) happened while the 360 was turned on.
