Frequently asked questions. Please read!

Post by Jman 31 »

We are getting a lot of the same questions asked here and so to simplify things I am going to answer some of them before you get started.

1. Will my onboard sata work for flashing my drive?

answer: In a nutshell, no. Yes, there are a few that do work. We don't have a list of them. You will save yourself a ton of frustration by ordering the recommended $12.00 sata card http://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm before you even start.

2. Can I use my 360 to power the drive during flashing?

answer: Yes you can with the Samsungs and BenQ drives, although it is recommended that you use a seperate power supply.

3. Can I flash with a floppy instead of a usb flash drive?

answer: Yes, no problem. You just have to make a bootable floppy with the proper info just like a usb flash. a lot of bios are set up to boot from the floppy first as the default setting.

4. When do I use FW Toolbox 4.0?

answer: This is a must! After you have dumped your original firmware ...and BEFORE you flash it....use the FW Toolbox to check and see if you got a valid dump. If it is all one number or letter it is NOT valid! If it is a series of different numbers, chances are its valid.

Xbox Live Questions

5. After flashing the firmware, will I be banned from Xbox Live?

Answer: The banning of users is based mainly on nonstealth backups. Currently, your best option for playing on Xbox Live with a firmware hack is using the iXtreme firmware, which refuses to load nonstealth backups. It is also a good idea whenever possible to play your original when on Live.

6. What can I do if I get banned from Xbox Live?

Answer: Xbox Live bans are permanent and irreversible. The gamertags/accounts are not banned, it is the console itself. You would have to purchase a new Xbox 360 to get back on Xbox Live.

7. Can I flash a Hitachi 0079 drive?

Answer: Yes. But you have to install a 79 passkey in order to do so. You have to have the passkey to even dump the firmware so if your planning a drive swap on a 79, it would be a waste of time to swap the drives because you would have to install the passkey to dump the firmware, then do the spoofing. You would be better off installing the passkey and then flashing the 79.

I will add some more later, moderators feel free to add to this list.
