Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
A question with media and i believe i am in the right spot...
By the way hello to all the Knights of Robin, i hope you all had a great Thanksgivings and i wish you a happy holidays.
OK on to the question as read in the subject field..
I currently have my media backed up on verbatim 8X DVD+R DL disks but as you all know they are very pricey.. retail 5 pk=$24
I burn my media on these disks at 2.4 write speed as noted by COFREE on one of the tutorials.
so the question now arises late in the game after many un-flawed backups why cant i purchase the less expensive 2.4X ?
is there an issue with the way the 360 will access the disk that it need it to be on a 8x disk?
I await your wisdom..
Thanks guys..

there are some people that use a different disc.
we say verbatim because they do well on all 360 dvd drives.
you can order them on line for about1.80 each at the right spot.

Re: Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
I have found some sites that offer the 8X disks for $1.40 which is a good price but in bundles of 40 plus shipping, it exceeds my pre-holiday spending; being i just bought a 42'' Toshiba for $729.00
ncaaplayer4 you say that you have used both, and i would take it being the topic between 2.4 and 8X that you have successfully created back ups with both...
did you maybe run into a higher percent of bad burns with the 2.4 versus the 8?
I have to date not had a single miss burn using 8X so i would stick with it but if the 2.4 or even the 6X would offer the same diligence i would be willing to change..
Thanks guys..

Yes I have used 2.4x to make backups and 8x to make backups. I can not tell that one is better than the other one.
Have not had many bad burns with eather one. Man you are going to love that 42" Toshiba. I would get a 20 pack and see how you like them, before getting a 40 pack.

Re: Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
i say the 8x are probably better quality, i have used both with zero problems but the bottoms of the 8x verbs are smooth where as the bottom of the 2.4x verbs have ripples/waves in them india and singapore ones alike.
i mean the 8x aren't more expensive for no reason but yeah u can find better deals on the net i guess.
i use to buy the 8x verbs at BB 5pck for 10 bucks, was almost a steal as they came with cases too.
now they're almost always 20 bucks.
i just get the 2.4x 20pack for 30 bucks when they're on sale, pretty good price.

My only successful back up was with a HP. I Tried using Memorex and they all give me a unreadable error. Is Memorex total crap and a waste of my time? I had one game start but then about 10 seconds in to the main menu it was unreadable. What should i do?
Re: Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
yep for this kind of stuffkurtisO wrote:Is Memorex total crap
the best DL disc to use is verbatim
Re: Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
haha thank you for your timely response i returned my pack of memorex and picked up some verbatim. i will know in about 10 minutes or so if that did the trick. have you ever used HP disks? i used one of those b/c i had it laying around it worked like a charm.
Re: Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
the only other disc i have used is sony disc
i still think verbatim is the best

Re: Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
Ok so i used a verbatim disk and it made it further than the memorex. After it told me to press start to begin the game it said "disk is unreadable, try cleaning it and restarting the console". Very disappointing.
Re: Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
what kind of drive is in your 360
if the hp disc worked you may want to pick u some and see if the next one will work.

Re: Verbatim 8x or 2.4x dvd+R DL??
I have benq. i am seriously considering that. I was just going over my options here. I am 1 for 1 with HP, 0 for 2 with memorex, and so far 0 for 1 with verbatim... I will try a different game on verbatim and see what happens. If it doesnt work i will have to try HP again. I am trying to think of anything that could be a possibility for why these disks arent working. Would verifying the disk after burning have anything to do with it? And just a recap... I am using Verbatim DVD+R DL 8x and burning them at 2.4x. I would also like to say you guys are great and I tell all my friends to join your site.
