faulty pcb (help)

Post by stuzza »

Hi Guys

Can anyone advise me im an electronics engineer by trade, usually dont look at things like this and normally repair tv's lcd and plasma etc etc , but yest a friend brought me his xbox 360 the machine had three red lights RROD syndrome i am aware of the fault and how it is curred, i done the x-clamp fix the indepth one so that went really well but on doing this i notice that someone else had looked at the unit prior to myself as it had been chipped for one and for two the left xclamp was half taken off and a substancial scratch was obvious on the PCB, on knowing a lot about PCB manufacture i would only asume the pcb itself is a multi layer board maybe two or three layer so would deem this PCB b.e.r, (beyond economic repair)it would be possible to repair the top layer with much dificulity which i did anyhow.

But unfortunately still not repaired the fault is there any known way to replace the mainboard and fit the lads original dvd drive coz i hear the serial numbers found in the dvd rom are criticle can anyone point me in the right direction any help would be fantastic :(
kindest regards in advance stu pot

If you can find a replacement PCB, it is possible to replace it. You'd have to know a couple of things before hand though. You'd have to know what brand and revision DVD drive was connected to the replacement PCB and you'd have to have the DVD key from that drive as well. If you had that information, you could dump the firmware from his current drive and inject that key and spoof it to the drive what was matched to that PCB. Then flash it with that firmware and it would work.

Now the chances of finding a motherboard that has that information included with it might be a little difficult. I would look around on ebay, ask sellers questions about whether they can provide that information and such. Personally, I'd probably just get a used one or something. Its a lot of trouble to find what your needing and then getting everything ready to make it right.

Electronic repair is what i do also.
sadalius is on the money with that.

money=time in my world.

so the work is not the thing,but a new 360 is 199.00 usd.
at best you/he will end up with a used pieced together console.
Even new the dang things are a pain so a used one
i can only imagine :shock:
