gpu xbox360

Post by bluelandcruiser »

okay i recently did an x-clamp fix on a rrod xbox (sound no video no error code) which has goten rid of the rrod but still having graphics problems after about 20 mins the graphics in the game goes blocky and grainy, wondered if anyone has had experience of this and how they fixed it bit wary of the heatgun method but wondered if removing a washer or doing the overheating thing to reflow the chips may help thnx in advance for any advice

You'll have to tweak some on your x-clamp replacement. Even with a heat gun, you won't get the chips hot enough to re-flow the solder. That would take a BGA rework station to do it properly. What the heat gun does is get the board hot enough to where it takes the wapring out and lets it lay flat, then when you put the x-clamp replacement on, eveything can make contact again. I would just tweak with it some and see how it goes.

i have a newish 360' the one with the epoxy round the chip to hold it down
and have mended the red lights on it 4 times now
i have redone the bolts and used the heatgun but it still red lights every couple of weeks
you might have a bad one like mine if the lights keep coming back
if you are a tight get like me :D then just keep using the heat gun and retightening the bolts
its a pain but it keeps going

Crowman is right. Someone them just can't be fixed. I had one that was like that, no matter what I did, it would not cooperate.

i have fixed about 40 3 redlight 360's now
and 5 or 6 out of the 40 have reafended
3 keep redlighting and i refuse to fix again and 1 or 2 have been fixed a second time and are still going strong (touch wood)
some i bake with the hairdryer for a couple of mins then rebake whilst cooling the cpu with the fan
but if you get a bad one then its ok for a spare drive not much els ;)

I like your approach with the hammer thing!! LOL. I'm sure that once you go over it again and use a heat gun, then apply some fresh thermal compound and re-setup the x-clamp replacement, it might do better. But just keep in mind, that depending on how bad the board is warped, you may not be able to fully get it working again.

i had 2 x-boxs like that.... i cheated and turned the fan in wards , and with the gpu just above it is the ana/sana chip set. if you try applied pressure on it and you find your hd work the you might need to do the coin stack method for a fix....
worked for me.....wish you the best of luck! oh ps make sure you use acrtic 5 silver thermal paste!

tutorials are on robin hoods playground
