e74 fix now have RROD
ok so a while back i purchased a xbox360 in hopes of fixing it as i have read a bunch of tutorials on how to fix them. I bought one with the E74 so wut I did was i did the xclamp fix on it and it worked i was able to play for days once in a while it would get the E74 again but i would just let it run for 10 minutes with the red blinking light on and after 10 minutes exactly would shut it down and let it cool for 10 minutes and start it up and it would work again for days after a few times of doing this all of sudden i got the 3 RROD and now i am stumped i loosened the screws mind u i did not have them really tight but just enough still nothing is working. If someone can please give me some advice on how to fix this i would be very grateful. Thank you all in advance for any help. and btw this site is awesome i have recommended it to all my friends Great Site very helpful genuine people.

what error code is it giving you now.
A good heat up with a heat gun maybe your last thing you can try.

Re: e74 fix now have RROD
it is giving me the 3 red rings. i hope i answered you right before when i would get the E74 i could see it on the screen but now with the 3 red rings the screen is blank i cant see wut error its giving me only thing i can see is the 3 rid rings blinking. i read somewhere just cant remember where is that you can use a hair dryer cause the heat gun can mess it up. is that right or wrong?

Re: e74 fix now have RROD
Read up on using the heat gun and you'll be ok. The best fix is a reball, but finding somewhere to do that is very hard and quite expensive so the heat gun should be a viable solution although temporary, but lasts longer than just overheating itself.

kool buddy i will take your advice and see how that goes. quick question though i know it may sound dumb but wuts reballing mean? does it mean resoldering everything fresh? and thanks for the replies to u and cofree i really appreciate all the help and time you all take in answering someones questions no matter how simple they maybe

Re: e74 fix now have RROD
Yeah, the CPU, GPU and memory modules are mounted onto the motherboard by little solder balls. So the process of removing those components and cleaning it up, putting new solder balls in place and baking the board to mount the chips again is called re-balling.

what method of xclamp fix did you use? Were your screws through the board only or did u go through the metal case then the board, this being better in my opinion.Dont really think you can get the screws too tight if you use two washers between the board and heatsinks.I have repaired several E74s by the xclamp fix and then just pulling the fan an letting it overheat till the two red lights blink, indicating that it is overheated.Let it cool and restart. Most of the consoles ive had that have Re-RROded were through the board only.At this point I would try just letting it overheat on its own ,but like CoFree said youll probably end up using a heat gun as your last resort.

the xclamp method i used was screws on mobo when i got the kit it only gave explanation for screws on mobo i will try going through the metal case this time see if it fixes it. and i did exactly that what u did fixin the E74 everything u just explained i did and it worked perfectly but sometimes it would give me the error again and i would let it run for 10 minutes and cool for another 10 and start it up and it would work just fine. but all of a sudden it just gave me the three red rings and now they wont go away. like i said i will give it a go putting the screws through the metal casing and if that dont work i will use the heat gun as my last resort going 2 buy one 2day in case i need it. thank u mallardman for replying i appreciate it bud! and thank u sadalius for clarifying wut reballing meant i really appreciate all of u guys help.mallardman wrote:what method of xclamp fix did you use? Were your screws through the board only or did u go through the metal case then the board, this being better in my opinion.Dont really think you can get the screws too tight if you use two washers between the board and heatsinks.I have repaired several E74s by the xclamp fix and then just pulling the fan an letting it overheat till the two red lights blink, indicating that it is overheated.Let it cool and restart. Most of the consoles ive had that have Re-RROded were through the board only.At this point I would try just letting it overheat on its own ,but like CoFree said youll probably end up using a heat gun as your last resort.

Make sure to use three M5 washers on each screw between the metal case and the board to prevent warping.

Re: e74 fix now have RROD
well i did everything i used the M5 washers on each screw between the metal case and i did not overtighten the screws they are just snug so when i connected the power and av the red lights came on but nuthing else worked not even the fans so i loosened the screws a lil not much and still same thing the drive wouldnt even eject the heatsinks were cold. so i put it all together without putting it through the metal casing and everything worked fine the fans and the drive would eject tray waited til i got the 2 red lights let it cool but still got 3 red lightsmallardman wrote:Make sure to use three M5 washers on each screw between the metal case and the board to prevent warping.
