Using BenQ in 0800 mode to dump games

Post by Backslash »

Hey everyone, I recently came across another way to backup games without the Kreon Drive. I have the BenQ drive and I have the 0800 firmware ready on my computer. I just today cracked open my old PC, and hijacked the power supply. I will be ordering a connectivity kit, which I can use to power the drive. My questions for all of you are, which connectivity kit should I buy, and has anyone else had experience with this way? I know CoFree had some trouble with this (trying to mount the drive), but if anyone else can help me out here, I really appreciate it.

P.S. This is the right FW right? Look in the attachment.

Thanks,

If the only drive that your going to do is this benq drive, then I would recommend getting a cheaper connectivity kit like the xecuter v2.

Some computers have trouble with mounting the drive in 0800 mode, some don't. It's just something that you have to try and see if it works for you. It's basically impossible to tell if your computer will get along with the drive in 0800 mode.

it should work fine, just make sure after u flash the drive to 0800 to enable the drive in your hardware settings after u reboot.

not sure if it's the same in xp but in vista that's something i have to do but only the one time, if you keep it flashed with 0800.

Can I power the drive with my PSU in my working computer, or do I have to use the PSU I got from from old PC? Is it wise to flash to 0800, and back again and so on whenever I need to backup a game?

If so (as in its ok to do this...), how reliable is this method? Also, the drive will be outside the computer, right? And one more thing, when I hook the PSU up to the CK, which onnector do I run off of the PSU, a molex?

You should be able to use the power supply in the computer that your working on. It's pretty reliable to flash back and forth as long as you keep your firmware flashes straight, and you should get pretty good reads from it as well. And yes, all the CK kits uses a moles connector for power.

Straight as in follow the steps dben then fben? I usually do this anyways, so now I think I want to buy a ck3 but what version, lite or pro?

If your just going to be working with your benq, save some money and just get a V2 connectivity kit. If your thinking about lite-ons though, then I would go for the CK3 pro.

But yeah, the procedure is the same for flashing it. Actually, once you get your original firmware and your hacked firmware, all you would need to do is fben between the hacked firmware and the 0800 firmware.

Thank you for the response, I will probably buy the V3 just so I can be prepared for a lite-on. And I can't wait to use my drive to backup games, however, I have been told my laser is a little weak. Would this cause a problem for dumping games?

It could, but it's one of those things that you'll just have to try and see how it goes. Sometimes things work great one way, but terrible or not so well another :D

Well i flashed 0800 and Itried to get it to work with powering from the xbox, and I got nothing, so I think I will stay with kreon... Good thing I didn't waste $50. Thanks for the help, and keep the mod scene rolling!

P.S. Does the 0800 play backups, or just dump them??

Thanks,

you don't want to put the drive in your console with it in 0800 mode. You'd stand a pretty good chance of getting banned.
