upgrading benq.
ive looked through many forums and I haven't been able to find a straight answer hopefully this works..
I have a Benq which was modded by someone I found through craigslist, I know he used Iprep to do the original flash and I have none of the original F/W or .bin info, I wanted to reflash my xbox to play the newest games that have come out. My questions are can i still mod without the original benq info, and which method would be most reliable If i wanted to do this myself? any help would be appreciated. if this has been addressed in another forum please provide the link as I have been unable to find one.thanks. thcbuzz0915

Re: upgrading benq.
The FW you will need is on the drive itself most likely and I would use iPrep to flash a BenQ do the dump portion....boot into windows ...go into your backups folder...copy your firmware to someplace like your desktop for now.. and do the flash portion....your done.

Re: upgrading benq.
Look in the Tut section if you have any question on how to use iPrep...Cofree has a very easy to understand video for Iprep. If you any question please post them up.

Re: upgrading benq.
yea
shootsteel is right
Just use iprep v009
then flash it like it has never been flashed before
this video will take you through it.
viewtopic.php?f=195&t=5129" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
make sure to reboot after the dump is done.
thats after firmtool runs and builds your hack firmware.
and save a copy of the backup folder
that is on the flash drive.
then reboot on the flash and run the flash command.

You do know you dont need to reboot, just power cycle the drive.CoFree wrote:make sure to reboot after the dump is done.

Re: upgrading benq.
no not sure what you are talking about.
I just power down the pc take out the flash and reboot into windows
then put the flash drive in and copy the backup folder for safe keeping
i even email it off my pc before i
boot back on the flash drive
then i run the flash command from iprep

Re: upgrading benq.
I think he means there's going to be a check of some sort from the extracted key against the drive.

Re: upgrading benq.
thanks for all of the replies. cofree that video link answered just about every question i had for the next couple posts haha... in the video he uses a ck3 kit... do i need to buy one of these or can i go directly through the reg power and sata through comp. sorry for these newb qts but this is gonna be my first mod so i wanna make sure i understand everything before i start. i also have a few more questions regarding the computer porion of the hookup... just about every guide out there says to get a VIA VT6421A... I have a 12 year old pc and a 4 yr old pc. I would prefer to do this on the older. any specs I should be looking for on the older comp to see if this sata card is compatible? the old PC is a HP Pavilion Packard 8765c... the other is a Sony Vaio VGC-RB30. I'm not very computer saavy so any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks again.
Re: upgrading benq.
well you can power it with the consolethcbuzz0915 wrote:in the video he uses a ck3 kit... do i need to buy one of these or can i go directly through the reg power
but
that is not recommended
i would tell you to get a kit of some kind.

for that old of a pc
you will need the via card http://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
if it wont work on that pc then just try the other one.
one more thing that oldest pc may not boot of a flash for that matter the 4 year old my not.you may have to use a floppy disc.
remember aftr the dump to stop and save a copy of your backup folder that is on the flash drive.

Re: upgrading benq.
the newer sony comp does not have a floppy drive.. the older HP does. How can I check to see if they're bootable from usb flash? I would imagine the sony could, but like i said I would really prefer to use the older HP as i dont care if it gets messed up. What information should I be looking for to see if the older HP is compatible with the via card.. http://tekgems.com/Products/la-pci22-vt6421a.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . should i just buy one and see if it fits? . lastly if the older HP cannot boot from usb is there any program i can install to make it possible. thanks again in advance. -THCBUZZ0915

Re: upgrading benq.
Go into your bios and see if you can select Usb as a bootable device (may also be called usbhd or some other derivative) If you can but still have problems booting from a usb stick try formatting it in Fat instead of Fat32 with iprep. If all else fails you could either use a floppy or use jungleflasher which works through windows.

Re: upgrading benq.
(Keep in mind this comp is about 10-12 years old)
Looking at the HP i got into bios by pressing f4, it's named PhoenixBIOS Setup Utility it has 5 tabs at the top...
1.Main
2.Advanced
3.Power
4.Boot
5.Exit
im asuming its under #4.Boot but the only options are
1. Boot-time Diagnostic Screen
2. Quickboot Mode
3. CPU Fan Failure Detection
4. Boot Device Priority
when i go into #4 Boot Device Priority it gives the following screen..
+Removable Devices
---Legacy Floppy Drives
ATAPI CD-ROM
+Hard Drive
---Bootable Add-in Cards
----Maxtor 94610U6-(PM)
Network Boot
it gives no furthur options after that, should i be under advanced or another tab... thanks again everyone

Re: upgrading benq.
Removable devices usually includes USB Flash drives. But it's kind of a guessing game at this point. Just try it to see if it works. My first flash I booted from a ZIP Drive.
