Question About Lite-On Flashing
Question About Lite-On Flashing
Hello,
Iam actually not new to firmware flashing but Iam new to the lite-on drives. The current way I flash the drives is to use my motherboards onboard sata control, I know its recommened to use a PCI VIA 6421 card, but that is where I have my first issue. I installed the card with the drivers and then I isntalled portIO. Whenever I connect any drive to it, my pc just hangs and I cant do anything. What could the issue here? The onboard sata controller works just fine when connecting drives and flashing.
My 2nd issue is, I know you need a com port to flash the lite-on's however my motherboard does not have any. When I launch I prep, I see COM1 in the list but I dont acutally have a port and my mother board is an ASUS P5QL Pro. Would it be advisable to purchase one of these, a PCI Com-port card:

Or one of these, USB to Com adapter:
http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/BelkinUSB.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Would either of these options work for me to flash lite-ons?

Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
why did you install the portIO drivers? if you were going to use iPrep to flash the drive that was your first problem.
Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
Ok, If I wanted to use Jungleflasher to mod all OTHER drives, I would need portIO correct?iamwatt wrote:why did you install the portIO drivers? if you were going to use iPrep to flash the drive that was your first problem.
Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
Not necessarily. If your on board ports worked then use them. Also if you want to continue using the VIA card with Jungle Flasher you must disable the drivers. To do that you just rename the driver file it should be here:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\viamraid.sys just rename it to viamraid.bak, restart your pc and voila; disabled drivers.
This is where portIO comes in. JF will use these basic drivers to communicate with the other drives. If your using portIO then you definitely need to have the drivers disabled. If you want to use your on board ports then do so as long as they're not causing you any issues. Also let us know what chipset you have. Some nForce and intel chipsets work for Jungle Flasher it's kind of a hit and miss thing. Also you'll NEED a connectivity kit with a usb port to support the serial interface for the lite-ons. Most of us the CK3 Pro/lite to do all our flashing. You can see a review of the most common on-line retailers here. If you have any more questions we'll be here to help.

Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
Thank you very much technoe, that absolutely did the trick. I can now use my 6421 card with jungleflasher. The motherboard iam using now to flash is an Asus P5QL Pro, it working great so far. The other motherboard I have is an Asus M2N-E with the Nforce 570 chipset and for some wierd reason it did not even see the card when it was installed, I have no idea why.
Anyway, I should have mentioned before that I do have the CK3 Lite and the Probe, however the motherboard, P5QL Pro does NOT have a com port and thus I cannot flash lite-ons. When I open up iprep just to check it says I have a com port but no actual physical port. What would be a viable solution here?

Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
The ck3 has a usb port on it which allows us to use a USB port on our pc's as com port. You just need the drivers which you can get from our downloads section.

Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
I do not have the CK3 pro, I have the lite, Iam guessing I need the pro?
Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
I believe there's a com to usb converter you can get.

sadalius has done the testing on this.

Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
Thanks guys.
Which driver is that cofree? i downloaded all the zips form the download section.
And how do I run it in dos? Should I make a bootble usb with iprep, throw the driver on there and run it at the prompt when it boots up?

he may have some comment about this.
Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
If you get the card that cofree linked to, it will have a disk that comes with the PCI serial card. On that disk is the DOS driver for the card. You have to put that driver on your iprep boot device and run it everytime you boot it up and want to use it. I added the line to my autoexec.bat file so it will load automatically for me, but it's not necessary. I can't remember off the top of my head what the command line is, but there is a read me that comes with the DOS driver so just read that and it'll explain how to get the driver loaded.
It is recommended that you install the card and run the driver before creating your iprep boot device though. This is because more often than not, your port addresses will change because of the addition of the serial port.

Thanks guys, you have a wonderfull community here. Last question.
My friend has just informed me that he has a CK3 pro which I can use.
So lets say I get this, it has a USB wire that runs from the CK3 to a USB slot on your pc, and then that USB slot becomes a comport correct?
How would one mod a lite-on with the CK3 pro.

Re: Question About Lite-On Flashing
You would have to use jungleflasher with the CK3 pro connected by USB.
