a splitvid ISO

im about to try my first back up but in the tut for back up it asks If you want to build a splitvid ISO put a check in the box.How do i know if thats what i want?I have samsung SH-D162C

I think split vid creates the same ISO, but it puts the video data in 2 banks (it only used to be put into one, and back to front apparently). I'm not %100 but I think it's recommended.

One thing I do know, is that since split vid images have come about, I have had nothing but trouble with backups. They work on one console and not another, and I know this can be down to a few things like laser and media but it seems to be since I saw the words "split vid".

Having said that, you'll probably never have a problem.....

Can someone who perhaps knows what they're on about elaborate on this a touch!?

Video Partition: On your original disc you have a small dvd partition that will show the famous message 'to play this disc put it in a Xbox 360'. It is what you will see if you put a game in your PC or if you have the wrong key in your modded X360. That small partition on an original disc is in fact divided between layer 0 and layer 1 of the dual layer disc.
Before Splitvid: Splitvid is in fact an adapted version of the traditional Xtreme format used up to XBC 2.6/Schtrom 3.3. The traditional Xtreme format backup have both part of the video partition on layer 0. Current hacked firmware will manage the request for the video partition sector of layer 1 such that they appear as being in their right place even if in fact recovered from layer 0 (thks to C4Eva). As a result, if the disk is queried for the various sectors, they appear at their proper place.
Splitvid: The new splitvid format respects the format of an original disc by having the video partition on layer 1 as per the original. It also maintain a copy of the layer 1 video partition on layer 0 such that it respect the traditional Xtreme format. Both format are included so you lose nothing by using it.

ok so if you use it it will be more like the original?

Right. It's supposed to be more like the original. If your not going to use your 360 on xbox live, then I wouldn't worry about split-vid. If you are, then I would do it. Some people like cofree has trouble using the split-vid backups. I don't have any problems. Best thing to do is to try one and see if your 360 like it. If it does, then continue making them as split-vids.
