Unbrickable LiteOn... bricked?

Post by loginsvarios »

I used JungleFlasher to flash my LiteOn for a second time (first was time ago with the iXtreme 1.5) and when it got to Bank 3 it froze. This has happened me on several occasions before so I didn't worry as I just revert over to dos... so I booted into MSDOS and tried l-0-eras and just get status FF80 over and over. There is no way for me to get it into FF72.
I have also tried in JF and it doesn't see the drive.

If i type dosflash in MSDOS it doesn't see anything on the primary sata which is normal as firmware is gone.
Do i have to get another drive or is there another method for erasing that I haven't tried yet?

I've also tried direct flashing with:
dosflash w bc00 0 a0 2 0 4 ix16.bin 0

(bc00 is my port from I read the key, etc, get my dummy and make my firm iXtreme1.6)
But it says No Atapi Found, so it wont let me erase or flash.

Some more info:

· I'm using a Conceptronic combo card (chipset VIA 6421) and 360xtractor pro.
· My motherboard is an Asus P5B Deluxe (ICH8 chipset)
· From Windows with the 32 version of l-o-erase I get status FFFF, and from 16 version of l-o-erase in MSDOS I get always FF80
· Dosflash32 wont see anything and also says No Atapi Found

Resuming, I have tried every method of erasing:

· dosflash16 (v1.7) using the dosflash liteon e bc00 command.
· Using L_O_eras in MSDOS I get FF80 (XX80) constantly..I tried over 100 times with more than 30 powercycles of the drive.
· dosflash32 will not see drive
· JungleFlasher (v1.6) intro command and also liteon erase... always get Status x80.
· From Linux with the xbox360tools also get Status ff80

I tried from MSDOS (iPrep) other LiteOn drives and they worked OK with the usual commands (same PC and tools).

Is my LiteON drive bricked definitely?
Is there another way to recover it?

P.D: Sorry for the "small" post, but I wanted post all the possible info. : - D

try just making a iprep boot drive
in the backup folder
make a folder named 1234567
then in that one make a 2nd named 12345
in that 2nd folder put a copy of the hacked firmware you want to flash in
make sure its named litcfw.bin
you can make that with jungle flasher open your dummy.bin
open target firmware would be your lit v1.6

then boot on the flash and just go to the flash command
flit 1234567 12345
it will try to erase it
keep your fingers crossed
if it works then just let it flash it

Nothing.

It says "Erasing... OK!".
Then in the Dosflash part, says "No ATAPI devices present!"

I know isn't necessary, but here are two images of that:

Just that is my nigthmare... xD
I tried it more than 100 times as I say in the first post, and always the same FF80 result.

Is this an unrecovering Liteon brick?

At this point I'm desperate...

Thats exactly what i went through the other week. Turned out my ck3 on/off switch was kaput, showed the blue power led turning off but was still allowing some current to pass through. Ended up removing the molex connector and reinserting to power cycle it and it worked first time after 4 hours of flicking the switch. Might be worth a try.

Removing molex test... Done.
Result........................ Failed (FF80)

ok very simple i had exactly sam problem as you do do the molex test again, but after you unplug it, power cycle it so it lets all da juice out (kinda like de-static-ing you self) but instead of plugging it back into THAT MOLEX, plug it into a diff molex output and give it a try.

worth a try?

i had same issue a week a go. except mine was in iprep but the same no atapi device was coming up so i went to jungle flasher and erased. Mind you i had a good key already. Then i booted back iprep and it recognized. I did the same thing when i had the no flash chip detected the other day and it worked also. Maybe dumb luck i dunno

Nothing again.

I tried all the molex possibilities and still the Status 80.
And for JungleFlasher I tried also but don't detect my device.

I'm open to any ideas to resurrect my lovely LiteON...

Hook it up to JF and send the commands regardless if JF detects the drive or not. If the drive is listening it will receive and hopefully execute the commands anyways. It's worth a shot, it's not like it could get any worse.

It seems some people with this problem select the correct port in JF or run the l-o-eras command and erase even though no drive is detected. Try this a few times until you Maybe get a FF72.

Opening tray and pushing it halfway in does nothing for this prob right?

I tried too much times, and trust me... Status 72 never comes up.
