Did i just brick my ms28 using JF?

Post by saudo1 »

I downloaded the latest Jungleflash and the latest ixtreme 1.6. I followed the PDF tutorial on JF's site. Everything went smoothly, no errors.

After flashing, when i tried to open the disc tray, it just won't open ! When i press the eject button, i hear the tray trying to open itself but it gets stuck. I can manually open it though by rotating a small black wheel under the drive but other than that, it doesn't want to open.

I'm so confused, have i bricked it?

Tap on the top of the drive. Samsung and Hitachi stick alot you can change the Belt on the drive motor or take it off put in hot water or heat it up don't break it though. This works good for me never had a problem. Theres a gear under the chrome white bezel on the right side turn the gear to open manually. It sound like that should do it, If not post again.

Thanks for replying.

I tried opening it manually and inserted a 1:1 game, sadly it did not boot, no game did :(

The drive tries to read the game, i can hear it spin alot but it just won't boot, the dashboard says "reading" and it stays like that.

I'm beginning to think there's more to it than the drive getting stuck, because now that i remember that before i flashed the 360, i ejected the drive and took out the cd once and it didn't get stuck or make weird noises.

Even originals don't boot? If so, read the FW and see if the key looks good.(Just read it don't write)

Samsung and Hitachi Drives are defective in my opinion especially pre 78/79 pre ms28 ,although samsung is a different method to flash they are pretty much the same (Same Laser atleast). Ive flashed plenty of these that needed a Laser to play backups, Originals worked no backups mainly Hitachi but Samsung could do this to. Anyway the lasers in these drives are junk, and now maybe yours falls under that description. I recommend recalibrateing the laser if you have an OHM Meter.(Let me know if you do) If not you can go on ebay type DVD Drive SF-HD63 Laser Lens $2 and up (some have anti static solder joint that needs the solder removed if you can't solder look for one that has it removed)(Be careful a lot of used lasers on there and a lot of new still new to be calibrated)(Some Samsungs have a SF-HD68 check it before you buy)(Check the drive motor as well in rare cases it's not the laser) A new BENQ is the best bet for $20. But this might not be your problem if its not flashed correctly.

I tried originals and they worked. I tried some copied ones again and some worked , some didn't, even though all of them were burned fine. This is so weird, the drive will not open without getting stuck unless there's a dvd inside!

I don't know what this guy did with his drive, it clearly is a drive issue. I'm just glad i'm not the one responsible for the fault as i though :D

I don't have much time to fix this drive, i'll just tell him what you said, get a new drive - they're cheap anyway !

Thanks for helping!

This site is just great

Your gears are dirty. You can easily clean these with some alcohol. The belt comes off really easily and goes on even easier. Carefully take the drive apart and clean the motor spindle and the gear it's attached to as well as the belt. Let them sit un-assembled for about five minutes to dry. Then carfeully reassemble the drive and test. If it still doesn't work you might want to look at the grease on the drive rod. If it looks dirty or dry you can replace it with some simple vaseline or mechanical grease found at Auto-Zone or similar auto-parts store.

Thanks for the confirmation that the gears are indeed dirty, technoe.

That doesn't sound that hard, will give it a try :D

you're wasting your time going out of your way to help/fix this drive. Tell him to buy a new one regardless otherwise they might come back crying stating you broke it. better to leave it in that persons hands, not yours. you've done what you could do but, your going way over your head on this one. if i were you I would have stopped @ the prior post you had up.
