0079FL Drive Help

Post by julio1583 »

Helo All,

i need some help with the Hitahi drive. I have the tutorial in pdf and the video from Textbook that you uys posted. I get the drive in mode B with Slax but when I bring windows back up and try to put the unlock 79 dics the drive will not read it. It does not auto run nor can I get into the cd. It just freezes hen I do that. I have a CK3 connecting the drive. I have an alternate power source. i have a VIA chipste that i have modded all other drives with. I just dont know what to do. If I cant get the unloch wave to play I cant flash the drive. ANY HELP is appreciated, I am at a loss. I am running Windows Vista as an FYI but I heard you can do it on both.

Thanks,

I honestly would use Jungle Flasher for this project. The guys behind JF have made it almost too easy to flash just about every drive out there. Even better it will put the drive in mode B for you and as long as you have your 79cd ready it should be a breeze. Sadalius has a really good video doing this.
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... 195&t=4439" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The only difference I've had was I had to use the unlock cd and he doesn't show that here. But when you eject the drive before it goes in to Mode B, just place your 79 unlock cd in, and then hit ok for Mode B. The drive will go to mode b after it closes and then just activate the 79 cd, your drive should now be listed in the drop down menu. If not hit refresh a couple of times before trying to unlock it again. Now you can follow the video from here on out.

How did you burn the unlock cd? There should've been two files when you opened the rar file. One is a .cue file and the other is the data file. Use ImgBurn to make the disc, and select the .cue file and not the data file. The .cue file will tell ImgBurn what data to look for and how to burn it. If you did this and are still having issues it's probably the disc, or the file, try re-downloading from xbins and reburn.

I tried the cd-r on my regualr drive and it does play! What can the issue be if it does not run on the Hit? JungleFlasher just says Not Responding. Dont know whats up.

Is it showing a drive letter in windows w/slax?
I always eject/close like 5 times after mode B then it shows a letter in windows also I use VIA 5.30c Drivers

Old Way FW Toolbox
http://www.robinhoodsplayground.com/for ... 935#p34935" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Try this way don't use slax its real old there are 3 ways to get in mode b so don't get bent out of shape. Use the mode b command in windows before slax.

JungleFlasher
It's freezing when you see the dots because you have your VIA drivers installed!! Uninstall the VIA drivers. If you use the Port IO method you don't even need windows to see it as another drive letter PORT IO sends commands directly to the port. SO...

- Uninstall VIA drivers and restart (follow the instructions in the JungleFlasher Tutorial to do this correctly.)
- Connect the drive to the connectivity kit with mode B OFF. (CK3 - light is blue)
- Turn on the drive and start jungleflasher.
- Go to the Hitach tab and hit Mode B. (make sure you have the correct port selected. Mine is DF00 the status will show a Hitachi drive)
- Follow the instructions (eject the drive then turn it off. hit OK and when you see the dots - TURN IT ON)

As long as it's not a 78/79 you can continue to flash just make sure you have Port IO selected instead of WinAPI. (78/79 drives require the unlock CD after Mode B.)

WinAPI means it flashes through the drive letter. Which means, you can go this route if you turn on the Mode B button on your connectivity kit and reboot. Windows will detect the drive and you can skip the mode B feature in junglflasher (as it's already recognized in windows) and use WinAPI. If you turn off the Mode B and follow my instructions above then JungleFlasher can use Port IO (MUCH MORE RELIABLE). If you decide to go the Port IO way and have the mode B button OFF on the connectivity kit and you DO have your VIA drivers installed, you will experience EXACTLY what you see... FREEZING. Simple.

SUCCESS!!! I have flashed with 1.51 FW. No 1.60 FW for Hitachi yet. It was the port I/O that was not working correctly. Feels great to get out of 2 day situation. Thank All..
