Flashing m28 with Vista.

Post by Kewickviper »

Hey, I flashed my m28 drive about 3-4 months ago with the 1.51 firmware and it went really smoothly! The only hiccup I had was with the drivers for the SATA Controller (I forget what it is called sorry, but its the one you suggest using with the TS-m28) and as soon as I uninstalled the ones that came on the CD and used some I found on here it worked perfectly.

I now want to flash it again with the new 1.6 firmware as I want to play the latest games with wave 3. However I have switched operating systems and am now on vista and have lost all the original programs I had :cry:

I am sure I can find the latest Iprep and the 1.6 firmware, but I would like to know if there's anything I need to do differently in vista and if there are any drivers that work with vista for the controller since I don't think the ones on the CD work right.

Edit: Just to add, since I am re-flashing and the firmware I have on at the moment is the 1.5 will I need to still do the read step before I write?

Thank you!

Since you plan to use iPrep there's no need to worry about the drivers. Just run iPrep like normal but be sure to download the latest ixdef.xml file and copy it into the resources folder for iPrep. Then load the latest iXtreme firmware and update your drive. There are plenty of tutorials for 8.8 which is almost identical to 9.

Thank you very much for you fast reply, so I do not need to install any drivers for the card at all and is it ok to just flash over the top of the 1.51 or do i need to flash it back to the original and then flash it again?

Thank you.

Flash it exactly as it's never been flashed before. Go ahead and install the cd's drivers.

The latest via drivers for the 6421 card (if thats the one you have) can be found here: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?Pa ... bCatID=117" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It will probably show up in device manager and iprep as a 3249 card as the newer drivers show it as this. You will also need to run iprep as administrator.
