Flashing a Lite-On
Hi guys,
My Benq 360 has broken so Igot a pre owned 360 today and at first thought by holding the drives together I was in luck and had a Benq, Unfortunatly I seen on you tube they look the same and to check the wires in the hole, They are yellow so it seems its a lite on, Im still tempted to break the seal and check on top of the drive just to put my mind at rest but will void my 3 month. Anyway im just wondering with all the new iprep etc etc is it possible to flash the Lite On same as the Benq without all the probe and stuff ? Will it read the drive ok ? I really dont wanna mess with any soldering or paying 60 quid for a probe and connectivity. I found it hard enough greasing to me lass to get a new xbox.
Im either gonna order a new benq from Ebay and swap the boards or wait a month or so till I can order the kit for this Lite On. I really need help with this so if anyone can help will be greatly appreciated.

The only way that you will be able to get the key is a probe if you dont want to solder. also i would suggest a long with many others to get a CK3 pro as you will need it to power the drive. Also if you use iprep you will need a rs232 cable = serial
Noramly a lite-on has the yellow wire and benq = grey this is not always acurate to as they are made by the same company

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
Yeah thanks mate, Ive seen a Probe pro kit for about 15 pound and the CK3 Pro part is about 40 pound on Ebay, So Im gonna need both them am I ? Ive flashed my Benq quite a few times now and always have used the power from the 360 cable so will that not work with the Lite On, Is there no other way I can tell without having to break the seal ? The drive looks identical coz I had them both right beside each other but theres 2 wires in the hole and both are yellow, Ive also been and checked the warranty staus on xbox.com and it expires 2010 so maybee its pretty new and is the Lite On.
Im thinking of ordering a drive for my other one whats just broke, A new Benq drive is it easy to swap the boards over coz I know how to do it im just a bit worried ill break something coz looks like you have to be very carefull, Thanks for ur help.
Please if theres another way to tell what drive it is for definite without breaking the seal, There must be a way, Thanks !
P.S I already have a Sata lead from flashing the benq.

You sure can.nufcmickey wrote: Coz then I can keep the other one for backups and this new lite on for originals cant I ?
If this one is the only drive you are going to flash. I suggest you buy a benq drive, that way you
wont need a ck3 and probe and you still can get your money back if you want to sell the lite-on drive.
The benq drives are the best. because they are very quiet
But if you are going to flash multiples drives. I suggest you buy the ck3 and probe.
That is just me. Decide what you want

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
My Benq system is already flashed with 1.6 but other day the drive broke and I ended up messing with the POT screw and it came off, So what I ment was if I was to order a Benq drive from Ebay, A brand new one then is all that I have to do take the board from my broken flashed Benq and put into the new drive and it will be just like it was before ? and is it easy to replace it coz I watched vids on You Tube and it looks easy as I will know what to do but it just looks so tempermental thats all, How easy do those ribbons slide off the board and are they easy to plug back in when youve swapped ?
I might aswell just keep this Liteon as it is for now then, But im sure desperate to get the CK3 kit you pointed me to, Ive bookmarked that neo website coz Ill be ordering from there soon as I get 40 quid. Also do you know any UK links for the cheapest or cheap new benq drives, Coz the ones Ive seen is from Hong Kong and seems a bit risky.
Youve been a great help thank you man.

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
I looked into it and I didnt find any UK websites that sells any xbox 360 drive.
I don't know if this website ships to the UK but I always bought my stuff from it, never had a problem

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
Yes you can simply swap the boards. Its as simple as unscrewing the board, unplugging the ribbon cable, and swapping the board.
The drive will be the exact same. Most ebay sellers will ship to the UK, IMO ebay is the best place to buy drives from, they are always cheaper...
The ribbon cables are not all that hard to remove, just make sure you have a hold of the plastic, and not the ribbon itself while pulling. Try to use even pressure, it will come out easier.
I bought 2 of these drives: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0440250448" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Its a benQ, its in Hong Kong, and it took about a week and a half to get to me. I dont really know why you are weary of buying from hong kong, the drive was made there, then put in a 360 console, and shipped world wide. You are just buying straight from the supplier. (The guy has a quantity of like 986 drives or something, so its safe to assume this account belongs to the company that produces the drives.)

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
Thanka again guys,
Yeah those ones from Hong Kong is the ones I was lookin at, 12.49 including P+P which works out around 16 quid, Thats very cheap. I also know from watching the vid and this past week of opening the drive I seen quite alot of it, and the vid I watched it was very clear showing how to sswap the boards, Ive looked at the boards and seen the clips, Know the ribbons to unplug and whenever I do something new like this I keep pausing the vid while im going through it. It just looks a bit delicate and id die if I nacked the drive, But your saying thats all I need to do is put the old board from my broken benq into the new benq and I will then have my flashed drive again, Nothing else to do right ? Sound simple enough. I really do wanna invest in one of those CK3 kits though as at some point im desperate to learn the Lite on so im never stuck again like this.
Ill check that link out you guys gave me and really a big thank you for your time and help.

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
you wont need to swap the boards. you can just read the fw from the broken drive and then flash to your new 1. that process will take about 10mins no need to open the drive at all

Well, you dont need to swap the boards, as commando said, you can simply flash them.
Its up to you, if you want you can swap the boards (no need to do anything else but swap them, and plug in all the cables again, once you do that you are able to play your backups etc) or you can dump the FW, and flash the new benQ

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
Im thinking the baord seems easier, Yes I already have the iprep stick from when I flashed the broken drive so still has the FW on that, So what you mean that I just plug in that stick and instead of reading the drive and dumping do I just write with the CFW.bin. If thats all there is to it That sounds good. Because I know how to flash them all day long now, Im sending the money off sometime this week for the drive. But also ive watched the vid on swapping the boards and have seen and looked at it myself, I can see clearly what needs to be done but like I said before it just looks a scary task, especially after Ive knocked the POT screw off the other drive, Thats why I need a new one, well it was broke anyway but was desperate to fix it, I did actually sort of get it working, now and again I was able to get a game loaded up but then I went that little too far trying to get it perfect and the screw dropped off coz that little white square cracked.
Let me know plz guys if all I need to do is use the stick I already have what I flashed the broken Benq one with 1.6 about a month or so ago, I think I might be thinking wrong now actually coz it needs the key from the new drive dont it, Hmmmmm !
Thanks for helping Fellas !#
Have just re read your comment haggard and you say I can just flash the new drive, Ill be putting it in the console what has the broken drive so wont it need to match the console or something ? Im sure I read somewhere it needs spoofing or something, I aint a clue about that and I dont use jungle flasher either, Can never get it to work.

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
if when you flashed your broken drive you should still have in the backups folder off your stick the file called bencfw.bin
plug in your new drive and go straight to fben as long as the both drives are benq you will be fine

Re: Flashing a Lite-On
Well spoofing no, a spoof is when you change the identification strings so it appears as a different drive than what it is.
Right now you have 2 options:
1) Flash the new drive with 1.6 and put that in your console.
2) Take the board out of the broken drive, and put it in the new drive.
If you flash the drive, you can take your CFW off the stick, open it in jungle or toolbox and check the key. It should be good then just flash that firmware onto the new drive with iprep or jungle. What you can also do is dump your broken drive, save that firmware as benq_CFW and flash that. (The FW you will dump will be ixtreme, and will have a valid key in it, so you can flash it without doing anything to it)
If you swap the boards, just do what you saw in the videos, remove the cables, remove the boards, and switch them.
Both ways are easy, flashing will only be 1 step, writing to the drive. Swapping boards is easy as well since you just have to unplug some things, and swap the boards around.
