The only way you will be able to know is try, IF not then you will need to get a sata card with the VIA6421 chipset on

Even though i am not ready to flash right this second, can I hook up the drive and then use jungleflasher or ck3 software or iprep (not sure which to use) to see if it actually recognizes it as a drive?

Re: How to tell if Sata port is compatible with liteon DG-16D2S
So i plugged in sata cord to dvd drive then turned on 360 and then turned on pc. No luck. jungleflasher says 'no drive detected'. This is the correct order/ procedure? If not let me know
Which via card do you recommend to buy? (i am in the USA)
Do you recommend going with the team xecuter pro kit and probe? I have no problem soldering as i have installed 11 X3CE's on the old xbox. But if i do not have to i am ok with the spending 12 bucks for the probe if it makes my life easy
Edit: it detected every so often when i moved the dvd drive to the master sata port instead of the secondary. But TBH, i do not think it is a reliable enough way to go as it was 1 out of 10 trys trying to locate hardware. I also think it helped to have non ide ports checked as well. But i moved it back to the secondary port and nothing.

Use your primary port, secondary isnt too reliable.
For usa, use http://www.modchip.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Boot your PC, then once your on your desktop, plug in your sata, power the drive the open JF. Then look for your ports.
Make sure you have PortIO installed.
If you are still unable to detect your drive, go for the via card.

haha yea, everyone has to start somewhere.
You can really power your drive at any point, just give jungle flasher a moment to recognize it.

OK, it took jungle flasher a few tries to find it but once it did it seems to stick with it, but if you go to the secondary port and then back, sometimes it cannot find it again until you reclick on primary port a few times. Will this be a problem when flashing? That is my main concern.
edit: one other thing, when using JF and the drive is found and then i go back and forth from JF to internet explorer, or other. it often crashes the pc, causing windows exploreer and all background programs to halt. is that normal?

It will likely be a problem. Seems like your mobo is having trouble identifying what is hooked up to it. When your comp detects it are you able to communicate with the drive fine?heyyouguys wrote:OK, it took jungle flasher a few tries to find it but once it did it seems to stick with it, but if you go to the secondary port and then back, sometimes it cannot find it again until you reclick on primary port a few times. It seems to, as all the info stays there. But it if i go back and forth it sometimes cannot find it again for a few more trys. Should i buy the via VT6421A card, to be safe?HaGGardSmurf wrote:It will likely be a problem. Seems like your mobo is having trouble identifying what is hooked up to it. was looking at buying this one if it is needed.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0431180075" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also, have you heard about this one at all (connectivity kit v3) is it bs or what cause it is way cheaper.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Connectivity-kit-V3 ... 7C294%3A50" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also my pc does not have a serial port so i have to go usb for any connectivity

That Via card looks fine, check your pin config to make sure it will work for you. I know that card will not work in my PC, as I dont have any ports with that pin config. That ebay seller is TekGem's which is a popular seller of electronics, so you should have no problem with returns or exchanges.
That CK3 is not an xecuter its made by some private company I assume, thats why its cheaper. Personally I went with the xecuter but you can buy that one if you want to save some money.

I bought the via card (pin config fits mine), spoke with them on the phone and said that not all pins are use (front ones), the manufacturer was using to save money, his words not mine. he said if it doesnt work just return it no issues.
Now i just gotta decide on whether to buy the knock off or real connectivity kit. saving 30 dollars is appealing. but i do not know.

Re: How to tell if Sata port is compatible with liteon DG-16D2S
Its usually better to go for the real one, since the real ones have protection built in to stop you from frying your drive, this one doesnt.
Its all up to you though, do whatever you like
I know there are some people out there who have made their own CK3 and probe.

I will most likely go with the ck3 as i have always trusted and liked the xecuter team products in the past. I will buy tomorrow morning.
With that said, i want to read up on what i need to do. Can you point me to the most up to date noob proof tutorial out there for flashing the liteon.
Thanks for all your help.
