In online services, we see a good amount of cross-pollination, with various companies taking good ideas from each other. The same has been the case with PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, and now Sony's Eric Lempel says the company has put itself on equal footing or even surpassed the Xbox Live service. Asked about parity with Xbox Live in an interview with Industry Gamers, Lempel humbly points out that he'd give a "much different answer" two years ago. "At this stage of the game when I really look at PSN and the entire offering I think we're in great shape," he said. "I don't think there's a lot of 'catch up' [with XBL] anymore. In some cases, we've got more, and we've got some other things they don't have."

He stresses that their service is free, and Home as a "massive community and application that's totally free to use." He says "there's a lot we're doing that in some cases they're not doing, and I don't see a lot of things they're doing that we're not." It seems Sony is satisfied with the service they provide and not looking to the Xbox service for guidance anymore; though it's an interesting tacit admission that the company ever was.
