BENQ reads Original 360 games, dvd movies, NO Backups

First gotta give credit to all the members here! Wealth of info and I've always come here for my flashing needs. And I have followed cofree1234's vids on youtube with %100 success.

OK I've never had a problem until now. I've been reading every thread that the search will show me and I still can't find a solution. I see replace drive, replace laser, and I think that might be it....BUT....

BENQ 360 will play ANY original game disc I put it no problem! 360 will play ANY DVD I put in no problem.

No backup game will play. I put the disk in, it tries to read, then it just says open tray on the reading/open tray tab. I then open tray and try again. No errors or anything. My 360 has never seen anything but verbatim, burned at 2x with imageburn. Again never had any problems until now. btw this just started happening last night.

I will appreciated ANY INFO. It really sucks my first 360 rrod again after xclamp fix, now my benq is failing also.

I would think to replace drive or laser, but everything else works :o

Edit: I guess I should say I've had this 360 for 1yr and 4 months, flashed with 1.4 first day, then 1.6 no problem ever.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried some older games Wave2 (1) and still nothing. I re-flashed 1.6 today, I tried a wave 3 and it showed up. I thought problem was solved. put the xbox back together and nothing worked. I then tried with no wifi adapter, then with no hard drive and nothing.

So weird to have a retail ODST work, take it out, replace with ODST backup and doesn't load up. :(

Have u got a spare drive you can test your backups with?
Or another 360 with ixtreme??
if so try that
if it works the problem isnt your backups
Also try cleaning the laser but be careful not to damage it
If that doesnt work u could allways try a reflash
And if that wont work it mite be time for u to purshace a new drive mate
There pretty cheap u can order 1 from http://www.ck3.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Its quite weird to me that it plays all your originals with no problems, but none of your backups. That leads me to believe your media is bad, or your burner is worn out. Since you are using verbatim's I would say your burner may be the problem.

How old is it, and if you were to give a rough estimate how many disks have you burned with it (cd's, dvd's minidisks take everything you have burned with it into account)

Best test would be to test your backups on another drive. If your 360 occasionally gives you errors with an original (ie: says open tray, so you open it and close it, and your xbox reads it) then you can rest assure your 360 has a bad laser.

Thanks to all for for the replys.

Yes this has thrown me for a loop. Believe me I would never post if I could fix it first.

All with 1.4 then after with 1.6. to answer djshauny1, I tried to reflash yesterday.

Trust me when I think it's the laser, but why does it work 100% on originals and dvd?????????????????

Alright, then we know its the laser.

360 drives were designed specifically to read 'originals', we have made the 360 do something its not intended to do, which is read backups. Since your laser is weak, it may still be strong enough to read originals, but not strong enough to read backups.

Ebay is the site.....they are not new no matter what they say but it should serve your purpose...Def your drive though...try a pot tweak while your waiting for your new one. Don't forget that originals are Pressed with million $ equipment we are Burning with 22$ hardware.
Peace out good night.
