RROD MS returned "NEW" Mk1 360
Sent a 360 to ms covered by the warranty for rrod, good quick turnaround and with the "new" console a nice letter saying your console has been replaced with a new one, Imagine my surprise when the date of unit was less than 4 months old but the power rating was 16.6a, in other words i got back a older unit than i sent in. Now i maybe a cynic but is this a sign that ms are starting to get rid of earlier failed but repaired units, the warranty seems to bear out that something is happening to the detriment to owners because the warranty is only 1 month, so repair your earlier failed units which you have a mountain of and to cover your arse just give a 1 month warranty, i did open the unit and it is the famed rrod xenon/zephyr chipset/motherboard,posting this as a warning to others who maybe thing a jasper may be on the way to them.

I sent in a box with red rings, and got a very fast turn around, and on the service website, it listed my console as something different. I think I sent in an arcade and got a pro or something...
Anyways, I took it apart to flash, and to my surprise I saw no screws holding the board to the case, so I took my whole board out and looked: (Apparently even M$ does xclamp fixes...)

So they sent me a refurbished box...
Anyways if you want a newer generation xbox, you could probably phone M$ and tell them you sent in your xbox, then got one back and your power cord doesnt fit in it...

i don't think they do x-clamp fixes, they might have just sent you and xbox that was x-clamed fixed and somebody sent it in. i think sometimes they just do gut swaps, your bad xbox comes in, they take it out, put it in one pile and put another one in, seal it and send it back. they prbably don't even look half the time. so it might have been a mistake. . .

I figured it was real weird, I bought that box off a friend a while back and I know without a doubt he doesnt know how to do an xclamp fix, nor does he know how to take apart a box, and keep the sticker intact (sticker was good when I got it)
It was a repair sticker, so M$ probably noticed it was xclamp fixed and just sent it anyways.
Edit: Turns out the box had a 3 year warranty with 'Future Shop' which is owned by best buy, and is just about the exact same. (Although we do have loads of best buys here, I worked there for a while...)
So future shop must have fixed it in store. I guess since theyre an authorized M$ service thing they are able to do that and recertify the boxes...

interesting but why would they do that type of fix. . . that's mad strange
Re: RROD MS returned "NEW" Mk1 360
Because they know all of the backyard engineers that came up with that fix are smarter than the employees at the store.

In the uk the replaced product must be "fit for purpose" the warranty law in the uk is a lot stricter than in the us, if they sent back just a direct swap and it failed with a date saying the product was a new build then there would be grounds to claim against ms even if you had no warranty left because the product being new would it be expected to last a certain amount of time,i do know technically you only get whats left of your warranty but if your original box failed, your new product would have to be extended to cover the time you lost its use due to faulty components.iamwatt wrote:i don't think they do x-clamp fixes, they might have just sent you and xbox that was x-clamed fixed and somebody sent it in. i think sometimes they just do gut swaps, your bad xbox comes in, they take it out, put it in one pile and put another one in, seal it and send it back. they prbably don't even look half the time. so it might have been a mistake. . .
Just wondering if the job has been done properly (reflowed components) or standard xclamp fix, would be risky just doing a clamp fix especially as a lot fail soon after they are done.
