Hi,
So I have a friend who has owned 6 xbox's in the past due to RROD, drives stopped reading, etc. Not knowing what he was doing, he has swapped drives around hoping to get any of them to work. He has thrown a few away. The most he gets is a DVD and music player. I have explained to him about the drive keys.
So now I have a console with a benq drive, but will not play games so I suspect the drive is not the original. My question is - is there any way of finding out the drive key from the motherboard itself, or other resource?

Re: Drive Key - Without Original Drive?
Are these xbox's Pre-NXE (Is it the original ugly dashboard that you press RB and LB to cycle through tabs)
If they are NXE then there is no way to get the key from the mobo itself. The only way to get the key on an nxe console is from the drive.

Re: Drive Key - Without Original Drive?
The console in question has the new dashboard on it, I assumed it was updated (Dashboard 2.0.1888.0). The XBOX has a date of 2006-06-14. I do not know how to tell if it is pre-nxe. What are other signs?
I have been reading on xbox-scene about how people are extracting the CPU key and coming up with the drive key on Xenon boards. I think thisis a Xenon board but am not sure. Maybe the date would tell me this?
