Do U Flash Ur drive with 360's power, or a Connectivity Kit?
Do U Flash Ur drive with 360's power, or a Connectivity Kit?
I thought it would be interesting to know how many users here flash their drives with the 360's own power supply as opposed to a Connectivity Kit.
I think CoFree made a good point in saying that there could (at least one day) be a risk (of MS detection) by using the 360's power supply while flashing your drive while it is connected to your computer's SATA controller (and not the 360's). (CoFree's a good example to follow as he hasn't had a single ban on any of his boxes...though I assume most modders use their 360's power supply for flashing.)
If one were to buy a Connectivity Kit mainly (if not only) for infrequently flashing a drive, would a Xeno (which sells as cheap as $16.95...cheaper than Xecuter's for $34.99) be a viable alternative?

well everyone know what i use.
you can get the cheaper one.
the thing is you want one that has a power on /off switch.it makes it so much better when doing the 10sam or 2benq sec trick

For samsungs and Benq's I use a connectivity kit. For hitachi's I used a connectivity kit attached to a seperate AT style power supply, that way, after slax is booted and I reset the computer, it doesn't reset the drive and make it loose mode b. I've only every used the xbox as a PSU maybe 2 times before, that was when I first learned to flash. Never used it as a psu since though.

Connectivity kit for all of them. The v2 has mode B already built in so the slax cd is only necessary for the hit v78. I also use a separate power supply from an old computer to power the kit.

The reason I use a slax CD with all hitachi's is because of the 78's and 79's (passkey required with 79's) require slax so I'm just used to doing it that way. Jman has a very good point in using the connectivity kit's mode b, as long as it isn't a 78 or 79.

Re: Do U Flash Ur drive with 360's power, or a Connectivity Kit?
Thanks for the good input. I'm afraid I don't really understand the difference between the V1 and V2 Xecuter Connectivity Kit.
- Do both of them have a power switch to power the DVD drive on and off?
- What is Mode B?
- What is the ODD adapter used for?
- I can't tell if the Xeno Connectivity Kit has a power switch for the DVD drive, does anyone know?

Re: Do U Flash Ur drive with 360's power, or a Connectivity Kit?
the v1 dont have the power switch
you have to get the hit dvd drive in modeB to be able to dump/flash it.
the other thing is for getting in the harddrive of a 360 (dont ask, you cant do any thing in there yet)
i dont know if the cheaper one has a power switch or not.

Can you tell by looking at this picture if it has a power switch? http://www.xbox-modchips.com/img/xeno-360-big.jpg
Couldn't tell from reading the specs here http://www.xbox-modchips.com/xcart/prod ... ctid=16315

nope no power switch
one of the switches is the modeB and the other one is the eject

Re: Do U Flash Ur drive with 360's power, or a Connectivity Kit?
I've got a Hitachi 47D drive and got it turnd into mode B just with the Slax 2.1 boot CD. The Hitachi drive is powered by the Xbox360 itself with a SATA cable attached to the 1st SATA port of my PC.
Here's what i did:
- First boot the computer with SLAX 2.1
- When the CD start (only when it starts booting), power the Xbox360 with Open/Close button or use the remote
- Wait until it prompts with ".... Spinning Disc" then immediatly close the tray.
- You should see the Green led blink indicating it's now in Mode B)
- When prompted for login/pass type root/toor and type "reboot"
- Linux ejects the Slax CD and reboots
- When rebooting the Xbox drive closes but still blinks (Still in Mode B)
- When in windows, wait until it recognises it (dont open the tray or you'll have to do the whole trick again !)
- Use you prefered firmware patcher
Although you all know the way to do it, maybe it can help for those who didn't succeed with other tutorials.
I couldn't get Slax 2.1 recognise and turn my drive into Mode B when powering the Xbox normaly. I had to Open the tray to power the Box and only when the Boot CD starts to make it work. Don't ask me why !!!
THis is my cheapest contribution guys
