My Dell Computer

Post by DJ411 »

I have a Dell 5150 and i can't seem to boot up iPrep from the USB i don't know what to change in the bios, but i did change the order of the way the boot devices are and USB was first and when i restarted my PC it doesn't pick up the USB what so what ever.

Please can some one help me on what i'm supposed to do?

on my dell they was 2 setting i had to change.i had to puy usb zip.
then i had to set it to. boot from other devices.
the thing is that i had to build the usb flash with ipre.
then shutdown (not restart)the computer
leave the usb bootable flash in the computer
now restart the computer go strait the the bios and make the changes in the bios.
i hav done this with the a-6 and the a-12 bios.
i think that was the bios.
if this dont work for you
you will need to look for a update to the bios that is in your dell.
let me know how it goes.

I saw some sort of bios upgrade to include SATA support (from Dell) but the certain bios revision was for a laptop...

Are you sure the USB Flash can boot from bios, can be a problem sometimes...

you are trying to boot from the bios.
on my dells you have to have a bootable usb in the usb port when you go into the bios or it would not list it as a boot device.
then i put usb zip on top.
the only bios you EVER want to use in your computer is the one that is for you computer.
you can really mees crap up if you get in there and start farting around

sorry I was talking to DJ411 and I meant can the PC boot from USB, sorry if there was any confusion there...

it could be the flash, I would say try a different one. If that doesn't work, try a floppy if you can.

Can't use floppy. When i flash my USB with iPrep it works perfect i tried two USB's and they flashed perfectly. When i go into my bios i go to the order of boot devices and i move USB to the top and i save then i wait then i get an error saying to insert boot device so i take it out and put it away it tries to boot but gives me the error again. My PC i think boots from a USB device but i haven't tried it on something else so it might not work. I'll check for Bios update and respond back later.
