My 360 Arrived

Post by cyantific »

360 Arrived today. Here are some pictures. I think it's a BenQ but don't know how to check if it's a Liteon. I thought you could see if the wires are white or yellow. Shined a flashlight with the drive ejected but couldn't see nothing.

From the look of the tray, its got to be a benq, whether or not its a benq/liteon thats another question. I think the only way to know for sure is to open her up and take a look.

It says Philips and BenQ, VAD06038 :)

Had a hell of a time getting the two slots open beneath the power plug on the back. Cracked the casing right above it where the power plug goes in but then it sure came off lol :\

dvd drive seems to be locked in place tho *NM* it was just really tight fit! drive now out and waiting on SATA card to be delivered

One of my 360s was terribly hard to get open in that same spot. What normally took me less than 5 minutes to do (open a case properly and easily) took me an hour...and at the end I nearly just broke it open...cuz it wouldn't open! But it ended up opening by pulling the case far enough apart (which I thought was going to break it...but it didn't). Anyways...once you have it open like that you don't feel like closing it again--if you're waiting for the SATA card (or fans, or pads) to come in the mail!

Yeah! It was really tough and I was following 3 guides including CoFree's video. It was not as easy as he made it look. I was trying to give it some force to dissect the two halves and poof, it just cracked. Oh well, honestly not that big of a deal to me. Can always look into case modding a little bit later.

All of mine just had to be pushed in the same as the other end. I usually start at the end you show there though. Plastic injection molding is not a perfect science, especially when every thing is done for peanuts in China. It's possible that the particular mold that yours came out of is not perfect.

Sorry I replied before I read the entire contents of this thread!!
After reading through I see you have already popped the case.. but still - this goes to prove you can check the contents/drive unit of your box without flipping the case ... infact you can do i without peeling the the tamper sticker off the cardboard packaging ;)

I think the 360drives.com databse should be considered as a very usefull & valid tool for people to not only refer to but also help keep updated ;)

As you can also see the Lite-On drive is now surfacing on retail units in europe !!

I was really hoping for a BenQ. My wish was granted :D. I used a hair dryer on the microsoft sticker, left no residue on the machine, and used an exacto knife on the aluminum below the DVD drive, came off very easily and no problems.

Aren't the Liteon's still being spotted exclusively in 360's sent in for repair? Are there confirmed reports of them showing in retail 360's? It's a matter of time either way.

I may be a bit behind on the "Liteon" discussion...but is that the new BenQ that is reportedly "un-flashable"?

yea that (at this time) dvd drive is not flashable. :(

they are working on as we speak. :D

its my understanding they are coming in some consoles over seas.
a lot of the consoles that go in for repair are coming back with the lite-on dvd drive also.

I'm going to do the iprep method I believe on my spare computer using the Xeno kit. What is the best guide? I'm looking at a few, link will do just fine ;)
