83850-v2 and 93450 DVD Key Can Now Be Dumped ?

Post by CoFree »

Liteon 83850-v2 and Liteon
Image
There have been several news reports on Xboxhacker.net of users having success in dumping the entire firmware including the important keys of the newest un-moddable Liteon DVD drives. The methods posted so far are not for the beginner so do so at your own risk. The method seem crude at the moment, no doubt some easier methods will surface shortly. Remember with that DVD key you can install any flash-able DVD drive to that once un-moddable Xbox 360. Good job to all involved !
Lift pin 101 and 122 (The MT Chip)
-solder a cable to pin 100, pin 101 and one to 3,3V
-use a 2-way switch which either connects 101 to 3,3V or to 100
-put the switch into the position so that it connects 100 to 101
-power drive
-start Dosflash, it will recognize the SPI with Status x72
-if you read it out now, it will just give you a .bin full of FFFFFFFF, but that’s OK, this is how we tricked the Flash Controller to think the SPI is empty
-put the switch in the other position (so that 101 is connected to 3,3V)
-now read the flash

Well guys after reading over a few threads
it would seam that this is true
I have not tried it
Ill be wait for more info right now
In truth it dont matter till we have ixtreme firmware for them anyway

there is the rumor of a different way to dump the drive
Let hope that is more beginner friendly.

Now
i would say this after reading the threads.
It would appear that there is (at least some) unrest in the 360 hacking/modding scene.
The 360 scene has been running great for a long time and i (and others) would hate to see it turn in to the
mess that the psp and Wii scene is.

That being said
The future does lok good for ,once again be able to flash ALL 360 dvd drives.

this has been a known back door known by a few since the lite on was first dumped. the problem is that a few select few are pissed that this got out because 1 microsoft and close the back door or 2 they were planning on making money off this like they tried a few months back. I think this is good news and will try this today and post the results back.

Thanks to MRA on Xboxhacker there is an slightly easier way of dumping the firmware.

No pin lifting or epoxy removing needed anymore! Just solder anything on the back according to this picture.
Also if you got status 0x52 instead of 0x72 with the "1,8V-method" this should do it. I already dumped 4 drives with this method without any issues.

-switch in pos 1
-power drive
-start Dosflash --> SPI should get recognized with status 0x72
-put switch in pos 2
-click "read"

unsolder anything and reconnect the lines that have been cut.

That's great news. I am holding off buying a new xbox until these new liteons are flashable.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake,
you just keep on trying 'till you run out of cake.

A lot of stores still have older xbox 360's in stock, I just picked up two April 09 360's.

I could be wrong but...
With this new exploit...I smell a chip coming.
I would gladly pay for something like that which would be undetectable by MS.
This would probably work best for all my customers, as well.

I will stay tuned...I guess.

Chips are not totally undetectable. Look at the original xbox and how many people was able to get on live with a chip.

No doubt, sadalius.
i just think it would throw a different wrinkle in the plans of Microsoft.
On the other hand, I can sympathize with some of the feelings that a few of the main hackers on the scene have about this exploit being released.
Besides their other thoughts on it being too early, I wouldn't mind paying or having people who wanted their 360 modded to pay for pulling the key.
I know some may say it is wrong and it should be free(and, I agree with that sentiment, too) but, too many fools have a hold of the technology or have friends who can do it for them and it is creating a bad situation.
I mean, this is where we are at now. Hard to read firmware, harder methods of extracting it, and even harder to keep MS from detecting flashed drives.

I don't know...I will do what it takes for me and my customers but, as the XBOX 360 comes close to the end of its priority with Microsoft(there will be rumblings of a new system by the end of next year) I wonder how long we(the modding community) can keep winning????

Just some thoughts...
