Since I did just devote several hours to reading through the main "ban" thread over on Xbox-Scene, I wanted to get your guys' take on a few things that stood out to me the most. Out of the hundred+ posts, there were 2 that stood out to me the most...or which maybe just seemed to be coming from users who knew what they were talking about. Before I quote them though, Cofree, let me just say how inspiring it is that neither you, nor the other 360's that you have modded have been banned! I take it you survived the first and second ban waves also? This is the best kind of "proof" for me...in determining what to do from here in my situation. I've only had my 360 for about 2 months, I already own 8 games (which cost around $65 each). I bought a second 360 2 weeks ago so my kids could have something to play on while MS fixes the RROD one (still waiting for their box to come in the mail...to ship it to them). I'm pretty decided on having 2 Xboxes, but the only reason for that would be to mod one and to not mod the other...and only play on Live with the non-modded one. But your success using your modded one all this time and never being banned on Live makes me wonder if that would really be necessary. It seems that for the next 6 months or so MS may not do any more banning.
OK, here are the 2 snippets of posts that I wanted to share with you:
This user (Notarin) also commented on other things like the 12v fan theory...and he seemed to know his electronics pretty well. To me (an unlearned 360 user)...his "theory" seemed to make the most sense to me.(From Notrain)
For the record, I personally think these last bans were a mixture of old remains (may '07) and the Jitter Detection, nothing else. It will probably be another 6 months before Microsoft has devised a new plan to detect 1.4. While the hackers can release a new firmware after a couple of days after its detection, Microsoft has to reverse engineer a new detection, then alter its production methods so newer discs will be vulnerable et cetera... a behemoth doesn't change easily, it's not a cat and mouse game anymore.
I just watched your video tutorial, Cofree, on how to stealth check (and SS check) ISOs or backup games. What is the best way to make the dump from the original DVD?--e.g, how do you make the best copy of your game? I've recently read that the Kreon drive is no long the most accurate...but that a Samsung drive using a certain method is more accurate? Also, I'm just curious to know (since you mentioned); how is an ISO that you download from the internet going to be different from the ISO that you create yourself?--wouldn't those same "checking" tools work to check if a downloaded ISO is safe or a good copy?(From 000HcC000)
1) Should you do/keep the 12v fan mod? not if you want to play on live
2) should you use kreon checker for "bad" ss? yes if you're on anything other than 1.4, no if you're on 1.4. And that name should really be changed to 6701 checker because it can and has been produced by 360 drives, not just kreon.
3) why are bannings/unbannings happening? there is no way to know 100% why ms ever ban, only what can be done to prevent detection. The responses from bad drives is a very good reason why bannings could be happening to people who don't have modified firmware, there is also a lot more involved in the timings that could or could not be happening.
Thanks,
Nathan
